We are absolutely disillusioned over here in the US about fuel prices. The highest for regular is $3.50 per gallon in California where everything is higher. Here it is $3.00 per gallon.

I have heard gas is much higher in many countries.  We are just totally spoiled. Everyone complains. I noticed a decline in residential customers for the Christmas holiday this past year for the first time in 27 years.

The only reason I have been able to derive from this is that the price of gas has kept some from traveling; therefore less interest in cleaning windows for out of town guests, etc.

We are beginning to pick up in our new residential customer sector again; Thank God I do a lot of commercial which never changes.

What is the average price of regular unleaded gas over there? We Americans need to be thankful and quit complaining.

 I drive a Ford F150 super Crew truck. 28 gallon gas tank. Bright yellow. 4 wheel drive big V-8 engine. 12-18 miles per gallon.

I Love it. I am 5 feet 2 inches; 105 lbs. I love my big truck. This is Texas after all.  I just plan my trips well. I do not drive all over for just one thing.

its about $9.40 if you convert it over here .i was in LA last summer so cheep for fuel out there

Amazing. Talk about good planning to maximize your driving, huh? That is a lot of money for gas; but I guess it is what it is so we adjust and go on.

My local Petrol Station is 111.9p per litre for diesel at the moment. If I drive about four miles I can get it for 107.9p. I don't know whether its worth the effort or not.

I know taxi drivers who spend £200 a week on fuel.

I filled up my Renault Trafic yesterday and it was just over £90! I nearly cried!!!

 What annoys me is the Chancellor (sorry - I cant say his name as it makes me sound like Im fond of him!!) claims the reason it is so high is because of the price of a barrel of oil! I went home to Ireland over Xmas and fuel was much cheaper. Surely Ireland are sold oil at the same price as the UK, so how come Eire can sell it onto the motorists cheaper??? simple, because poo load of tax isn't added on!

I keep records of fuel used, and I only put in £20 at a time.... you should watch the litres I get fall month on month!

It won't be many years before I have to put £30... this is still only half a tank.

Still, I expect we're all helping to save the environment, eh?

Wow !!  You must run your tank right down to the line.  My guage has been showing near empty before but I've never spent more than £75 on a fill up.  Sounds like those guages must allow a fair bit of margin for error which is comforting.  I think the tanks hold 90 litres so it sounds like you probably put in about 85.

My local is £108.9.  Per litre

3.8 litres in a US gallon £413.82 a gallon

4.5 litres in a UK gallon = £4.90 a gallon.

If I put £90 in I'd have a crash the next day and waste it all.

A few years ago, I had such an old banger of a car that it was nearly ready for the scrapheap.  I just used to put about £15 in each time (probably the equivalent of £20 today) in case something else went wrong with it and it needed scrapping.  It was such a piece of rubbish that the tyres were worth more than the car so it wasn't worth any more patching up.

get yourself a bookers cash and carry card and buy there drums of vegetable oil works out just over 50 pence a litre , fill up 80% veg oil and 20 % diesel massive saving van runs a treat

Wages here are much better than in America in general but food/fuel etc etc is cheaper over there. Its swings and roundabouts. I myself wouldnt want to live in the USA. No National Health......the worlds highest rate of homicides. I owe the NHS my life, I can walk and have good teeth because of them, the only reason I can work now is because of the NHS. The gap between poor and rich in America is vast, and in this country is is becoming increasingly bigger. The rate of homelessness in America is huge. But we can pass our driving test at 17 here and drive at 70mph on the motorway!! Both USA and UK are in the top 4 richest economies in the world. Anyway Texas girl, I really want to go to America in the future and I'm planning on visiting Texas and NY, so could you recommend me somewhere nice to visit in Texas? Thanks, Luke

Ok, so I'll do all the maths, first I'll find out how much 1 gallon US gallon is compared to a UK gallon:

1 gallon [US, liquid] = 0.832 674 184 629 gallon [UK]

UK gallons to liters:

0.832 674 184 629 gallon [UK] = 3.785 411 784 liter

so 1 US gallon is 3.78 liters

Average price of fuel in my postcode area per liter:

Unleaded 107.0p   Diesel 111.6p

so for 1 US gallon I would pay over here in my diesel van:

£4.21

So £4.21 converted into $$$ is:

$8.23

So we pay:

$8.23 per US gallon for our diesel vehicles compared to your $3 per US gallon

I hope you know realise how expensive it is here for fuel compared to the US. But most of us use Vans with Diesel engines here for our work. My van is a 2.0ltr HDI and is very quck even with a tonne onboard and will do 40 miles per UK gallon. And I hope my maths were right, because if there not I'm going to get alot of stick!!! Luke
