Over the Crimbo period I decided to put together a letter to target commercial work in my area.

Sooo.. after getting the wording as I wanted, printed on nice quality paper, sent 1st class yesterday.

TODAY... I get an email from one of the bigger hotels near me asking my to come and have a chat.

Really pleased with such a quick response. But haven't had any experience pricing hotel/ commercial work, it will be ( if I get it) the biggest job I have, and a order will be going to Alex for a longer pole :o.

So, what methods/ formula's do folks use to price hotel work?

What frequency do hotels normally expect?

What doe's the hotel expect from me?  I mean I have my insurance, I'm as regular as clockwork, do a good job ect

I'd really appreciate your help on this one - as I don't want to lose it, or get it by underpricing myself and finding it takes more time than expected.

Thanks

Did you address it to anyone in particular, like "The Facilities Manager", or just direct to the hotel(s)?

For this one I just addressed it to Sir/Madam. Others named managed to get hold of the owners or managers name.

Tosh, just to say I thought the high impact low cost, allied to a 1-2-3 strategy was brilliant

To achieve this we suggested your public areas (entrance, bar, restaraunt, gym, swimming pool) be cleaned every month, have all the exterior room windows cleaned every-other-month, and  the inside room windows cleaned every three months.

[Now this would form the basis of a brilliant offer letterquote]

Go fish

I quoted for that hotel 2 years ago, i got the lead from a national company.
It is a very difficult clean with frames in really poor condition.

They didnt even have the courtesy to get back in touch with me after the quote.
They are also after it done for peanuts.

Thinking about it i am glad i didnt get it, it is more trouble than its worth.

Thanks Windolene.

So you would only use your ladders up to the first floor - then anything higher will be cleaned on the inside?

Although, I'd be using WFP, I'm interested in all approaches to cleaning large properties.

Hi Gofish, just saw the piccies, big(ish) job there. What Dave says makes a bit of sense (about the state of the frames) if possible try and get a pre clean(that is get them to let you do a couple of practice windows to see how they come up with the WFP and the technique you use.
This way you could save a lot of hard work trying to fetch them up clean enough so you can get paid.

Viz; had a job once, quick look round, priced up, accepted, did the job but it did not come up clean using normal technique due to bad frames, old residue leaching out from cracked putty/paint lifting and breaking off in little pieces, what a nightmare.

So advice is, try a couple of test windows before hand, especially if they have not been WFP before, and check these from inside as once started, must be finished reasonably clean before payment is made.
Sorry about the longhand way of saying it.

And please could I have a look at your letter. (Lancs area) rdwc@hotmail.co.uk

Thanks in advance and good luck.

Thanks for the compliment, and although it may sound good, I don't think it is.

It would be better to stick a low quote in for doing EVERYTHING EVERY MONTH, then after the first clean, implement the '1-2-3 stategy' using some nouce; it's what your competitors will be doing.

You'll be keeping the windows clean to a reasonable standard, yet still making a good profit.

This isn't my idea; it's what I've learnt from more experienced guys on this forum.
