First thing to freeze.

This week it has been cold here in the south and 2 out of the 5 days have been really cold in places,i`ve been reading some of the posts about peoples hoses freezing up and would like to offer a little tip if i may.One day this week all of a sudden no water so i thought o dear my hoses have frozen up it`s just to cold to work,then i had a thought about taking the pole hose off of the brush just to check to see if there was no water getting through to the brush,everything was completley clear from frost or ice but the thing that was causing all the problems was the Y peice,it was full of ice and blocked so i cleared it out with a good blow and there you go no more probs,the exact same thing happeded the next morning so i did the same blew out the Y peice and hey presto straight back to work.I wondered how many of you last week went home and thought it was to cold to work when i`m sure you had the same trouble,these plastic Y peices are very thin plastic and are prone to frezing as i`ve now found out but such a small thing like that can give you a massive headache,pure luck how i found out really but i suppose that`s what they call learning from experience. :) :) :) :) :) :)

my Y piece snapped in half this week it must have got really brittle in the cold

I use a 6mm brass Y piece so my pole hose would have to completely freeze before my Y piece blocked up with ice ;D

Not true - your hose has some insulation against the cold - a brass y piece will conduct cold straight in and will freeze up first.

In fact a brass spigot at the end of my hose cracked off this week - I reckon that ice formed in it and fractured it at a weak point.

True, a brass Y piece will conduct the cold but it wouldn't block up as quick as a 4/2mm plastic Y piece or snap so easily if the pole was left standing against a wall/window and was accidently knocked over :o

NWH, In my van the pole hose doesnt freeze at all for some reason, just all the tricolfex and ends of the microbore. When I'm out working its those y pieces that freeze and I do the same thing just blow throught them. I have never had my tanks water freeze even on days when I dont work and dont put the heater in but my friend who uses wfp in his transit always gets a frozen tank. Peoples van/systems seem to have different problems, Luke

I`m not talking about in the van,i`m talking about the Y peices only when working in cold weather.

I went through the exact same procedure to find that the water in the silicone hose, running from the jets to the T piece, had frozen.

You should try the old double 'X' pieces!  A nightmare, but we got used to it (until the dread dreaded double helix mulitplex!

I prefer the "O" pieces, work a treat, they have a nicer flow than the "Y" pieces! Luke

Just filled my van for the first time since we had the freezing weather last week, here in Holland we had -4 during the day and -6 at night....this went on for about 3 or 4 days so that freezing was compounded....even saw some people skating on a small canal on Sunday!!!!

I just took a look into one of my 500litre containers....it was about an inch thick on the insides....ROFL...the only reason it looks so cracked at the bottom is that I had to smash through the top with a claw hammer;D
