Hi Guys,

I'm in the middle of building a web site for CTCS, Things are going ok but whenever i log on to the actual site it takes forever to load, but it was fine yesterday  as i have a 1meg broadband connection this is odd?? i wondered if any of you chaps with knowledge on this subject can help, could it be my web server and not anything i've done to mess it up?

I tried, but got bored after the first 10 minutes. The progress indicator sugested that it was about one-third loaded. How many hours would a full load take with a 56k dial-up connection?

If you want to know about Websites send me a personal message.  Maybe a reason the site takes too long to load is the images are too large in file size, they have too be optimized.

Hello,

We have Broadband and usually it only takes a few seconds to download anything. Your website took 6 minutes & 30 seconds. Each page once on the site also took nearly 5 minutes to download.

I am no computer genius so can't offer a suggestion why, all I do know is that if I were a potential customer, I wouldn't bother to wait to see your site. I would go on to another one without a second thought.
You are therefore very unlikely to get any work from it.

Also, once I had managed to see your website, the graphics took a while to finish downloading so the page was incomplete for a while. The curve across the top and the pages down the side were last to come up.

Hi Guys,

Its not the content size as it is minimal at the moment due to being only 20% finished.
I presume it is a temporary problem with my server IOMART and will be instant once this is put right but the lazy buggers dont work weekends,  so not too chuffed with customer service, especially considering its costing £500
 I'm promised to be top of nearly all search engines in my area, if not I'll really go to town on them

They were taken and we wanted to keep it minimal, The site worked instantly yesterday so hope it to be sorted asap.
 Just want to be sure its not my fault before i phone server monday and kick some ass.

Hi Paul,

I am up early every day, including Sundays. Often have a look on here over my coffee. I tried your website again earlier today and left it alone while it tried to find you.

After 10 minutes I had the "Page cannot be found" answer. Tried again and the same happened.

Seems like it's not just your server that doesn't work Sunday's.

Have you already paid the £500? I paid nothing like that with One & One.

If things are not resolved, or if the search engine promise fails to materialise then i believe i can get a refund.
Still there is a chance while editing i may have caused the problem in the first place??

The thing that atracted me to iomart is the fact i should appear top all major search engines in my area, which i guess is the reason for the cost.
Time will tell
I have no doubt that it will be up to speed tomorrow and wouldnt be suprised if i was responsible for messing it up

Point Taken, although with iomart they will take my design and make it more professional, when i've figured out what i want to say??
 There is no way anyone other than myself could actually know what content to include to best portray my business, so unless you want to spend thousands there will be compromises.
 I'm sceptical as to what to expect from a website when it comes to jobs per pounds invested in the internet.
 But there is only one way to find out!!

I've no doubt what you say is right, broadband does offer far more flexibility and potential for far more content.
 I for now just want to have a website that can put across what we offer but have no intention of leaving things so basic.
My brother works in computer programming and is a bit of a whizz so as soon as i can drag him away from his x box I'll get him on the case

Hi paul,

Your image sizes are fine, well below what broadband can handle or 56k. Looking at the code behind your site it looks quite good, I cant see nothing obvious wrong, I take it this is a template which you are updating with the text. What are you using for doing that? Sounds like server issue, let us know.
As for the web changing over the next five years, yes it will but remember that your customers come from all ages of life.
Having a website with loads of flash, high image sizes is fine but will all of your customers be able to see it or be bothered to wait for it? Untill 56k is dead you still have to cater for it. Keep it simple, professional and to the point. Hopefully they will brighten it up after you have finished with the text and make it a little bigger, it is rather small and dull.
