David

Since you've moved away from the City of Wolverhampton, the amount of work available doubled overnight.  All of a sudden, those little fishes have become even bigger fishes in an even bigger pond.  They don't need to cut their prices anymore 8)

But the day you finally come out of retirement is the day they all dread ;)

Don’t get me wrong  1st Clean I know all about recessions  I started carpet clean in a recession  back in 1979 when the average wage was £90 a week. What I’m trying to get across here is how different things stimulate the market. And I think the half price cleaning leaflets use to do just that.

You’re  up  late Ken,  This question comes from a conversation I was having this morning with  my old mate in Worcester  Dave Atkins, We were saying that when the half price leaflets use to go out people use to ring round to find out what was on offer for their money . Now they have stopped in many places its gone a lot quiter.

You Can Mike its called bartering

its not a battle of fittest, thats a load of bull,
the fact is minnium wage has gone up, when i was putting 10,000 leaflets out it was £10.50 per thousand, now i hear its double, when i was getting 200.000 leaflets printed blue on white it was £280, and i havent a clue how much they are now,, the cost has double
so theres less profit for them

Good point Bill, So  that may well be the reason for less leaflets going out.

Maybe people are relying on and working on there websites to generate the work and leaflets have just gone out of fashion for a bit.
I'm in the process of designing my Jan/ Feb leaflet, local printer quoted £397+ VAT for 10,000 4-colour printed both sides, A5!!! Tooo much  :o

Don’t sound too bad Gary at nearly £50 a thousand  for full colour,  provided you get the impact your return should be good.  Any form of advertising is a gamble  it’s all about being in the right place at the right time

Unless you've got prices showing on your flyers ie £10 voucher or similar the printer shouldn't be charging VAT on them as their exempt Gary.

Only ever seem to get the 1/2 price leaflets round here. Never seen any quality ones.

As for bait and switch had a classic  one the other day. The half price suite clean as per the leaflet was £48 but by the time he had added in a "deep scrub"? de-odouriser and anti-staining treatment his bill was £379!

And that's where I entered the customer's conscience!
