A pencil or needle jet is just that, the water comes out like a pencil or a needle!
A single stream of water.
The fan jets give you water in a 'fan' shape, so better in respect that the 'fan' of water will cover will cover the entire width of the brush, but you also need a higher flow of water to achieve a decent 'fan' effect.

With a needle/pencil jet you can operate with a lower flowrate and can better control where you aim the jet of water.

Ah yea I do, okay thanks for the answers, I need Pencil jets, which I already have from Gardiners poles. Just wondering why somebody might use a fan
jet, now I understand.

after using both, i have found i like fan jets but only when the varistream is turnt up to higher pressure so it sprays out in a strong mist, otherwise it just piddles out and takes longer, with pencil jets - i didnt like the idea at first but they work really well, my 45ft alluminium pole has them, and it really works well for rinsing down at height you can see where the water is going, and it spreads all over the window on contact so i prefer pencil jets now, unless you use high pressure fan jet nozzles, so they use less water and sprays out finer.
