Do all TM Run throttle flat out ?
« on: December 16, 2007, 08:14:29 am »
Seems everyone runs throttle flat out ?

3/4 Throttle on any tm is giving you good vac & a nice supply of solution for carpet & is signifacantly more powerful than a porty. We also use Chempec products I don't know if that makes a difference. Not a micro splitter boffin personally.

It seems for some guys a bigger issue with upholstery. I only run about 1/2 throttle still loads vac & its not pulling the arms out of you, not generating unnecessary amounts of hot water & am running less pump pressure & of course putting less wear on the engine, less petrol. I don't think cleaning upholstery costs any more its always more labour intensive.

I've just started to run just under full and it sounds much happier with no difference in perfomance.

Each machine will have a certain revs per minute that will be the "best" for that engine.  This shouldnt be varied from by either dropping or raising the revs.  By lowering the revs you are asking the engine to do its job not in the way it was designed for.

This may not be the case with some machines but I run mine the way it is meant to be run at 3100 rpm.  Vehicles have gears which maintains the correct "umph" as and when needed.  Truckmounts dont so again run them as they should be run not like you think they should be run.

Best, Dave.

P.S.  psg, if you run my truckmount on 3/4s power then not enough power goes to the generator and accordingly the fuel burner will not kick in.  In which case what you have said doesnt apply to all truckmounts.  Again, they are designed to run at a certain speed and shouldnt be varied from.

I think you can't have too much vacuum which is achieved with maximum revs on the engine, I run at full revs so about 3600rpm, (but only half on upholstery)

if you run at lower revs won't it strain the engine unless you lower the vac relief, after all you are expecting the engine to achieve the same Hgs without full power.

and.... you need full revs to get the exhaust gases to heat your water

Mike, I hadnt thought about having to heat the water.  You know how I heat mine and I have always done so that way so never needed the exhaust.  But again, good comment.

So fair to say truckmounts should be run at full!

I run mine TM  similar as Mike, full revs carpet and half revs upholstery and have done for the past 14 years with no apparent problems.

brian you are doing yourself a disservice by only running your T/M at half revs. less vac & less heat

unless you got a big un !

Not only a disservice to yourself but to your machine too.  I dont know why you want to make a truckmount struggle.  It is designed to work at whatever it is, not on half revs.

Some of the bigger TMs, like my new Blueline Thermal Wave 2 Vortek, dont have a throttle and instead have three fixed switches - I, 2 and 3 or Upholstery, Single Wand and Dual Wand. Most operators including myself do runs of up to 200ft for carpet using the lowest or Upholstery setting as this is very sufficient. Mine has a 5 series blower, prior to this I had a TM with a 3 series blower which I ran flat out at 3,400 revs on carpets and 2,900 on Upholstery. On Upholstery with my new TM, I sometimes feel the vac power is too much, but I dont have a lower setting, so find myself using the vacuum relief on the tool head for the first time ever on occasions. Its all about gettiong the best out of the equipment that you have, and you can great resulst and short drying times by adapting techniques to suite.
