Hi,
I have a 100% wool rug to clean with red stains on from a cricket ball has anyone ever had similar problems and any ideas how to tackle it would be greatly appreciated.

You got no chance, been cleaning a mate of mines carpet for about 7 years now and the cricket ball stain is still there from 2000.

No doubt Phil has tried most things on his freind's stain but as a last resort on tough ones I use Help Mate (chemspec) . It doesnt remove the stain but can make it invisible, same thing to the custy. Spray and go may also work. They are both controlled bleaching agents and may take some time to have an effect.
However you might still be on a sticky wicket with this one

Course was really good.
Paul and Pawlo brought forward lots of tips.
24 of us in total, inc. 11 brand new to carpet cleaning - no experiance, no machine.

Surely this can't be too difficult to get rid of, you see all those cricketers rubbing the ball on their white trousers and the next time their all clean again.

And what does does ariel contain...bleaches and colour enhancers, so if you want a nice white patch on the rug go for it

When i did my first prochem course a few years ago i was with the son of the owner of a carpet cleaning company that had been trading very successfully for some decades, he swore by washing powder for everything!

Dont shoot me down, never tried it just reporting back

As the saying goes " Don't knock it, etc..............although I would be very carefull with someone elses property.

There are two additional problems with washing powder, the first being they are bulked to increase their volume artificially, by adding a chalk ( I think )which is a bit abrasive, and adequate rinsing would be hard to achieve

Washing powder on carpets, why not? Designed to clean fabrics with heat, why not carpets?

As far as i am aware cricket whites are made from nylon/cotton and normal washing will remove, would you get the same result trying the same method on a 100% wool product ?

I know where your coming from with the washing powder, did think it myself. If noting eles work give it a try maybe a very small test patch what have you got to lose if it not coming out any other way however I don't think ( or don't know)  there is anything to spectacular in the powder that you won't already have in your spotting kit.

Are'nt cricket balls waxed leather so maybe try solvents to break down the wax and hot water rinsing to flush it out?
