Hi all

I am on the third clean of some houses on my round. The majority of my cleans come up great and have no problems. However, some are still spotting after the 3rd clean. For example a house today, front only. Cleaned the first time two months ago, finish was visibly bad, did just glass again to bring it up to standard. Second clean a month ago, was much better than 1st clean but still not perfect. Today, it looked fine in normal light but with a low setting sun, it looked bad. Again, it had to be done again.

In most of these where I am having this problem, it looks like the spots are coming from the seals, not from a lack of rinsing the frame. When, if ever, is this problem likely to subside. I am not getting complaints but I wonder how much of that is down to people leaving in the dark and getting home in the dark or simply not wanting to complain. It is knocking my confidence and I find myself asking if they will ever come good. It is also slowing me up as I don't have the confidence to go quickly.

Any advise appreciated.

Try using a mono brush this will remove the old soap residue better than a softer flocked ended brush,when you use a stiffer brush for the first time even after doing loads of cleans with a soft brush once the stiff brush starts cleaning the frames and seals it will remove the soap and you will see it bubbling up round the edges.Do a couple of cleans with a mono brush and see if it improves before you can say there just plain problem window`s.

i had a barn conversion that took 8 cleans before it didn't spot.
I use to wipe off the water with a microfibre when i had finished before that.
It was quite a big job so by the time i'd finished the windows, there were only drips around the bottom of the window so it only took 5 minutes more to dry.
They have been fine the last couple of cleans.

3 cleans is nothing to be honest.
Yes, they should be getting a lot better, but I really found the job easy and reliable after more like 5 or 6 cleans.

Could well be worn seals that are causing this and in some cases you will never resolve this. Next time they are due, take the time to chuck your ladder up and have a close look at the seals or if the custie is in ask to look from inside. Having a close look will rule the possibilty out or in!

I'm curious, what solution did you guys use, was it Fairy? I'm using squeegee off atm, been told that it doesn't leave a film on the windows. I guess it would be even better if the panes were cleaned with GG3 or 4 first wouldn't it?

I use gg4 am in hard water area not that I think it makes much difference from gg3 only IMO though.

If you use  Fairy it will leave a film on the glass, Its easy to find out just do the finger test and rub the glass and you will see it a slimey mark on the glass

Fairy contains loads of SALT. - gg3 doesnt.

It sounds very much to me like the problem is milking. Are the frames milky (rub them with your finger and look at it ) if the paint is coming off the frames even a little bit will leave white spots.
The key here is white spots. Dirty frames don't leave white spots and it can't come out of the water.
There are techniques for minimising the effects of milking but the first stage is identifying the problem.

OK davids3511 Lets try and give you more confidence 

Reach & wash has one universal rule Frames

If you have bad frames then you are going to have Problems.
What I mean by bad frames is OXIDIZED Paint or rubber seals
There is a lot on this forom about OXIDIZED paint So its up to you to look it up but OXIDIZED rubber seals and there is a mix of opinions.......

If its a first clean go back and check your work... If they come up good then they should all wash up good.. If not then you know that these need attention....

If you are getting spotting on the bottom window ... Then I would do these traditional..... If you are getting them on the top windows You have three options.....

1 get your ladders out and do the tops

2 Leave it 

3 Or you can Try what I posted some time back about trying to clean the top of the window with virtually NO water( http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=43663.0#msg349680 ) A lot of people took the mick  and still do...

but last week I had a houses  that had this problem.. I tried my little trick and went back to check  :

3 cleans is not enough to know if these will turn out to be prob windows some can take a lot more as a rule : painted wood is most likely to cause probs next is aluminium specially powder coated then bad seals tho imo these more likely to show as a localised "run" rather than generalised spotting make a list of the houses where you have probs look at the windows and try and work out what causes it but most come good eventually really 3 cleans nothing like enough to judge yet just stick at it mate best of luck

It's more of localised runs. General spotting doesn't happen very often.

Thanks for all the replies. Feel a bit better today. Did a few filthy first cleans and they came up spotless. I swear the dirtyer they are the cleaner they come up.

Stay away from ali windows they`ll give you nothing but trouble with the pole,give it to a trad WC.Runs and milky stains galore no matter how long you scrub and rinse,it`s quicker to blade them even after previous cleans still same original problems.

Glad someone agrees with me, instead of the usual "I can do them fine" :

I've got a house with aluminium frames that I've done every month since April and it comes up perfect except there's always spots on the top 6 inches.

I don`t bother to pole it it` not worth the greive,like i say i either give it away or if it`s big and an inside and outer and surrounded by grass i`ll do it myself but the pole won`t go near it,you`ll here people come on this thread in a minute saying what are you on about you can pole ali framed window`s,well i`ll tell you what you can have all mine.
