who cleans frames on maintenance cleans?
« on: December 11, 2007, 04:51:34 pm »
I think i have finally cracked wfp first cleans! ...... having said that i will probably have a bad spotty day tomorrow.
I have spoiken to a few people and read all the online wfp guides and today cleaned frames then went back to do the glass - all ok.
I am now looking towards my second and third cleans and wondering - do i clean the frames again or just the glass?
I want to get my time down to 15-20 mins for a 3 bed semi as apparently this is easily achievable but can you clean the frames also in that time?
 ???

I do them. They soon turn grotty if you don't, then you have to do a first clean again, in effect. Although it was quicker when I used to leave them.

Thing is, the best thing about wfp is that it makes everything look so good. So why leave it out?

I claen the frames on all cleans. After all that was always one of the selling points of wfp. I have to say that 20 mins for a 3 bed semi (average) I would be disappointed if I took that time doing it trad! However each house is different

i find doing all the frames causes problems your for ever going back to re do windows.
doing the frames (top frame) takes far to long and iv hardly get the windows perfect.

This is obviously my opinion only.

try to form some type of rota where you clean top frame every 12  upstairs weeks say, and then should be ok i only find it a pain on upstairs because downstairs just gets a wipe over as quicker

if you advertise that you clean frames, then you should do so each time, to be honest, with WFP it's hard not to!
This was mentioned ages ago on another thread and it does bring about the question of what do you consider a window to be?
a) Window,frame and sill
b) just the glass

a) makes you a complete window cleaner?
b) makes you a glass cleaner?

Just make sure you and your customers are singing from the same hymn sheet or you will get problems :)

I almost always clean all of the entire window, that said there are exceptions, care really does have to be taken with vents in the top of the frames of course, and you also have to watch out for oxidized frames too.

If a frame is oxidized you can still get away with doing the frame...to a point!
Spend too long washing it and you will get spotting.
First time clean on frames that have oxidized I really THOROUGHLY wash them, on maintenance cleans they get the briefest of touches, and then I will concentrate on the glass...I always clean the sills though.
I will always check the windows for oxidization on a first clean.

Time taken on your average 3 bed semi for a repeat clean???

Houses vary of course, I do one with very easy access (a stand alone account) that I can do in 8 minutes, thats from opening the back door of the van to closing the drivers door on completion. That's 9 windows and 2 doors, all UPVC and everything, frames and doors washed too.

On this particular run the next 2 houses are also 3 bed semi's, 10 windows this time, 1 large patio door, a kitchen door and a large front door area.
Both houses identical and the pair take me about 25 minutes...er, that is for the pair, I pull up at the one and both are done without need to move van.But access to these two is more awkward, flower pots, plants, not much room to manoeuvre   and so on.

By and large a straight forward 3 bed semi should take somewhere around the ten minute mark, plus or minus 2 or 3 minutes, and, providing the frames are in good condition they will also be included in that time.

Having said that, cleaning at that pace and to a good standard takes practice and experience.

Done trad, a similar property will take you about 5 minutes longer.

On standard semi's the time saving isn't great, although for the trad window cleaner to also wash down all of the frames and doors it will take him longer again.

But for any newbies reading this.....don't price for work on the belief you will do anything up to 6 houses an hour!!!! It won't happen!

Ian you don't half get up early ;D ;D

As far as we are concerned, a window consists of frames, sill and glass. We advertise we clean "all" and we price accordingly.

Some others may consider a window to be just the glass, but I would be sorely p***** off if I ordered new windows from Brackenwood (or whoever) and just glass turned up ;D ;D ;D

Hi Helen,

I too clean all of the window and the "frames & sills"
when I was trad i cleaned the window only (the glass) and charged more if they wanted the complete window unit cleaned. WFP I just do everything.
