do you ever get this feeling when pressure washing??
« on: December 03, 2007, 07:58:54 pm »
was doing a job today, finishing it tomoro,  used the whirlwaway on it,  then used the turbo after to swill away and get any remaining bits as always but sometimes i think it might be just as quick or quicker to use the turbo from the start all over.   on some jobs i come away so tired thinking this all the time.  just wondered if anyone else thinks this although i do love my whirlaway on flags! but badly mossed block paving with weeds in too sometimes i think the turbo from the off would be quicker,!   ???? ???

You shouldn't be getting tired using the whirlaway!
It should be a piece of cake on block, even mossy, weedy block.

Using the turbo on the paving from the start would take a long time and would completely cover the house, garden, neighbours house, dog, cat,... etc

Must be a big job to take 2 days, nice one.

not getting tired andy with the whirl away, just getting tired after using it cleaning all the roots and bits and doing edges with the turbo afterwards  on a big job on commercial premises.  the whirlaway takes the moss out no prob if you walk slow enough but it does not take the tough roots out and if they are all over the place its tiring!!

The Whirlaway should be removing the weeds and moss leaving you to simply wash down and spot clean stubborn areas.  If it is not, then it is possible that some attention is required on the pump to make sure its flow and pressure is as it should be.

I very rarely use a turbo nozzle for either cleaning or washing down, and so I cannot comment on how tiring it is to use consistently.
If operating at full potential, the whirlaway should be enough to shift the vast majority of the cr*p from the paving leaving an easy light rinse and a shovel to scoop up the sludge.

Hope you get to the bottom of your dilema.

maybe i need to lower the spray bar??  i use the double spray bar instead of the triple spray bar, i think the double is best for block paving and all general cleaning, have you tried the triple one andy?

hi
i fully appreciate your comments. can you post
1.what is the spec of your pressure washer
2. which fsc are you using
3. which nozzels are you using on the fsc.

these factors will determine the performance.

Not knowing what nozzles are in fsc sounds like most of the problem, as they have to match the pressure and flow of your pump. A two nozzle bar will need 02 size nozzles in it for your pump. Remember the nozle wear bigger with use so do need replacing.
You say sometimes you use a triple bar? 16, 18 and 20 inch whurlaways use 2 nozzle bar and the 24 inch uses a 3 nozzle bar. so how do you get a 24 inch bar into a smaller machine?

Have you a gauge on your machine if so are you getting over 200 bar on it when fsc is in use?

On mossy surfaces I lift the cover right up on the wheel threads and lower the rotor head right down, this lets the moss and water out quickly so your'e not using the energy to mash the moss up and just agitate the trapped water/moss mix
I'm always in the poo, it's just the depth that varies

Have you a gauge on your machine to check the actual pressure in use, this is valuable info re fault finding?

When new a wurlaway is usually supplied with 025 nozzles a "middle of the road" oriface. You need 2 x 02 nozzles on a 2 nozzle m/c for exact results 025 is slightly big so worn 025 will be too big.
I would stick with 2 nozzle bar as a single nozzle (for lance use) should be 04,half of 04 (cos you got 2 x nozzles on bar) is 02. As a tri bar (divide 04 by 3) will need nozzles of 013 oriface it cant be matched corectly.

Work it backwards for a better explanaition. If youv'e got 025 nozzles on tri bar the total oriface size will be 3 times 025 will be 075, when the single oriface should be 04, therfore the try bar with new 025 nozzles will only give you around 80 bar

hi yes low your bar or fill a wheelie bin and pump the water out and get a better water supply.
