Hi Guys
I got a phone call from the accounts dept of a large company that i do office cleaning for today. They politely informed me that they had gone in to administration and no longer nedded our services. The problem is that they owed my company around £3000 and having already paid out wages for the work completed means we are totally out of pocket.
They had been promising payment for months and previously been good payers so i let it ride ( lesson learn't). I was told the administrator would be in touch in the near future.
The question i am putting to you guys is has anyone been down this route and what is the chances of recuperating any of the money owed.

sorry about that mate. on money side im afraid it's waiting game. a lot depends
how much the greedy administrators take and who get's priority payments.

Generally speaking you will be behind Inland Revenue, any secured debts (banks etc), their employees wages and the Administrators fees. Not usually anything left I'm afraid. The fact that you've not been paid on time shows that they have no cashflow and have been forced into this position.

I got stung for over £8k about 2 year ago. Went to court got debt collectors etc etc. Result another bill of £1k and sweet f.a in return.

Currently have another going for about £500. Wont bother with courts this time. Personal visit from large men with bats.

hound the directors of the company they may get fed up of you and make some form of payment to you .. if the firm goes into liquidation chance is  you will get nothing....just a question is the business trading again under a different name?

sorry to hear this Karl,

I dont really have much faith in the "system" for this, the other businesses involved always come down the pecking order when theres usually nothing left.


Might be worth seeing if a debt collection agency will chase the directors on a no win no fee basis. I would of thought the only joy you will get is by chasing the individuals not the company. You could also offer full setlement for say 50%?

They may of done this before so its worth asking about to find what companies these directors have been involved with, i think companies house website has a search on it.

We have been down this route before, I wouldn't waste your time with liquidators, you may get 5p in the pound if you are lucky.

We had it with Etam, I had supplied them with good cleaning staff for years, they then slowed up with the payments, which flagged up in my mind.

I then read that they were in trouble in the Times, and immediately registered a non payment of invoice plea with our local county court, after months of ignored letters and telephone calls, surprise, surprise, the financial director called.

'Don't you know who I am' attitude at the beginning, and then, please hold of until 21st, I promise that you will get your money  :

I don't think so, I still proceeded, on the 14th I received the full amount, which was about £5k, about a month later a ream of paper came through from a liquidation company naming hundreds of unsecured creditors, they went into liquidation on...... you guessed it 21st of the previous month.

These people are numptys, they couldn't care less about you and I, I think the secret is to keep on top of your invoices. Its happened to us many times over the years, if I smell a rat, then I am straight up to c-court.
