problem with rotary
« on: December 02, 2007, 04:02:50 pm »
Hi All

Im having a problem with a Vicor high speed rotary and the cleaning co I bought it off reckons Im imagining it or causing it somehow. After using it for about 30-40 mins it starts cutting off and then gets to the point where it wont start at all. When I start it you can hear a whirr, like when you are trying to start a car but the battery is dead, and then eventually it kicks off, but then after a few goes of this it wont go at all.
Of course, if its left alone for a couple of days, its fine and seems to be working great. the cleaning co said they tested it, not quite sure what this means, I think  they just let it run for 20 mins, and there was nothign wrong with it.But its a right pain up the ass as I have to brign two machines with me, one as a back up incase it conks it.
Any suggestions what might be causing it.
There is a restart button, but this doesnt get it going either.

Sounds like your start capacitor has gone.
When changing the capacitor I would also reccoment replacing the start relay as well.

Hello, It could also be brushes stuck back or worn but they are cheap to replace while its in bits
