not for the first time I have come across a nylon carpet where the tips of the fibres has black fibres attached to them. my guess is that these are from dark socks or such like.

No amount of vacuuming or agitation seem to work

I cant remember if on previous occasions the carpet was nylon or polyprop.

I am sure one of you will have cure??

Is it all over the carpet? are you sure that these are not rogue tufts?

this can easily trick you into thinking that its a spot stain when in fact it will be a dark piece of yarn thats wrapped itself around the tuft.

No amount of cleaning will remove it, it will have to be pulled and re-tufted.

If it is fibres from socks etc that are adhering to the tips then the carpet,to prevent this happening again, will need an anti-static treatment

I had wondered about anti static, but it is something I havent used before.

but how would I remove them in the first place?

they are not rogue fibres, but mostly in the fraffic lanes.

One I had a few years ago had a black spec the size of a pin head on every fibre in the fraffic lane.

I have come across a couple of large red patches on a beige carpet in a show house. They were from the back of two large circular red wool rugs. The fibres from the bach were interwoven with the tips of the tufts. I tried to get them out without spoiling the carpet but eventually put the rugs back and left them.( the builder would not pay extra to remove them.)
