I use aldi's walking shoes (£9.99) and have bought 3 pairs over the last five years. (The first two wore out in about a two and a half years each)

In the winter I use aldi's walking boots (£18) because they are more water proof than the shoes (and are lighter than my £100 karrimors) and I've had them two years.

No steel toe caps but lightness is more important to me.
It's a game of three halves!

My last pair were North Face (£100) and they were crap. Falling to bits after only 3 months.

I have just bought 2 pairs. A cheaper hi-tec pair from Oswald Baileys for £55. I added an extra coat of waterproofing spray and they are great boots.
2nd pair from Strauss direct at £60.00 + VAT. Have also given them extra waterproofing and they too are great.

Was advised by Oswald Baileys manager to buy a few pairs of sealskinz socks for extra protection. After all feet must be kept dry! ;)

I thought my Aldi walking boots were great when I bought them about 4 months ago. They are knackered now though, the heel had to be re glued twice, and they leak in spite of waterproofing them regularly. Does anyone use those Gortex socks?

Actually i have two pairs of "waterproof" boots that are crap. Thinking about waterproof leather ones next at considerably more money.

I have never liked wearing boots at work, but I use a pair of hiking shoes that are much the same.

I got them from Marks & Spencer for about £45 and they were by far the best value of their kind around. My second pair have lasted about 2 years.

Old fashioned Doc Martens take some beating. Only trouble is they are a pain to lace up and even worse to get off when you've had a few.

We use Rigger boots,

they are waterproof, warm and comfortable, quite cheap and the main point is that they are easily removed when doing inside cleaning, a winning combination! Luke
