Yep put a card into the letter box each time I have cleaned...saying I have cleaned and the date of their next clean.

This card also has my bank details on ...so they do not have an excuse ;D

Allways leave a bill and an envelope
most post it back
I have been doing this for years and saves having to collect in the evenings

Every customer has a number
I just leave that on the Bill and they post the bill back
that way i know who has paid

I  have a generic printed note, and add date, customers address/name, and amount owed.

I have pre-printed generic bills.  There is a space for the date and the amount on them.  Those are the only bits I fill in.
I think that cleaning the windows without leaving some kind of bill is not a good way to go about business.  It leaves you open for not getting paid and, as you have already discovered, creates mistrust with the customer.

I have them printed out on A6 170gram card...we try to keep it simple and clear.

people can tell if they windows are clean, just many do not look, if you dont let people know you have called I would advice you do this asap.

Yep, I always leave a note and an envelope. Otherwise most customers wouldn't have any idea I had been.
I don't agree that people would notice without being told, quite the reverse.

I always leave a pre-printed note too. The problem I find, is that they often go unread by the customer. Husband or kids pick it up and leave it somewhere, and the one that is being asked to pay hasn't seen it.
HOW MANY CUSTOMERS TELL YOU, YOU DIDN'T LEAVE A SLIP? Dai

Haven't had that one yet. Lots claim to have mislaid the envelope but they always get a call from my wife after about ten days if payment hasn't arrived.
George is great for keeping track of money owed.

i use a simple design with 4 to a a4 page - i cut out- with
business name
'your windows were cleaned today:<insert date>'
'amount due: insert amount'
'visit our website for easy online payment or post a cheque in the prepaid envelope'
i then include at the bottom little clipart pict/
landline mobile and website

i reprint the backs of these with:

'If paying by cheque please write your address on the back of the cheque / or on a separate piece of paper.

Please make Cheques payable to:

<insert your name/or business name>
This envelope is prepaid.

Alternatively you can send payment online for free using a debit or credit payment card – please visit our website.

Your regular cleaning services will continue between:
insert approx date'

my mistake to start was not including 'please make payable to' so they wrote the cheques to my business name - now i have had to open a business account at the bank to cash these. Also i forgot to ask them to write their address on the back of the cheque! its important to include this as i have received payments and i dont have a clue what address its from!

I print about 50 envelopes each week with my business name in italics in the top left hand corner, and my home address in the center.
i post them if they are not home after doing the job, just slipping my note inside the envelope.
I think it is better buying 1st class stamps and putting them on, i know it costs but its not much out of the amount you earn per property, and i have received all my payments due, when they were not home by doing this - within a week i have recieved all the cheques.
i have not had anyone call up about this, and some of them i havent even met yet. You are more likely to get paid, and quicker if you included prepaid self addressed envelopes.
