Custy's smoking
« on: November 15, 2007, 09:19:51 pm »
On a job today there was a guy in to fix the custy's cooker . The custy lit a cig and the guy asked her to put it out . She, looking quite stunned said it's my house and i'll do as I like . The guy then replied your house is my place of work and if you don't put it out or go outside then I will leave without fixing your cooker and off she went outside as she wanted her cooker fixed. I am an ex smoker and was a bit shocked but I suppose with the smoking ban he was in the right. Would anyone do this to a custy or let your employees do it?

I would say;

"fine don't fix the cooker and fu&k off"

lets see if he goes knowing he won't get a penny for his time in getting to the job and any work he's done, he would also have to return the cooker to its original state.

he was just been a twat

Mike

He was an employee of a company and was told by his employer that they were within there rights to do this. He would be getting paid anyway and they would bill the cust for the call out .

seem to recall this discussion not so long ago :-\

I would tough sh*t , like it or lump it.
and get some body else.

I wouldnt dream of telling a custy to put out their cig, or tell them to stop farting ,or any thing else for that matter, they are paying me . they can do what they want ;)

He was not being a twat it's a legal requirement, at least it is in Scotland where tihson resides and works. We are in the domicilery care business and clients know they must not smoke when a carer is in their home, likewise, for the past year or so, I have found clients who smoke, either go outside , or keep well away from where I'm working.

I've been amazed at the compliance, but it certainly makes life a lot better for me

What an attitude,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but I've always regarded smokers as selfish b******s but I'm pretty amazed at your responses to this.

The smoking ban has been in place here longer and peoples attitudes have changed up here .I do see alot of people smoking outside there own homes now than before the ban came into place. As an ex smoker it doesn't bother me and I still let visitors smoke in my home.

Like I said WHAT AN ATTITUDE you are displaying and I absolutely assure you and don't contradict me.......................for the past year, or so, people have complied with the no smoking policy which was introduced here a year earlier than England and GO OUTSIDE or DO NOT SMOKE while work is being carried out in their homes.

There has been a reported drop over the first year in lung cancer of some 17%

Certainly ain't me that's dreaming and I would not and never have been prepared to work in a smoking environment and that has been over the past 23 years.

Council householders are told not to smoke for at least 2 hours before workmen arrive or they will refuse to carry out any work in South Tyneside

I dont think the no smoking policy, is enforcable in your own home,
certainly not in england.

You must have lost a lot of work over the last 23 years if the scenario you are portraying is true,

23 years ago practicly everybody smoked in there own homes .

Keep eating the cheese ;)  its great for those dreams :)

Geoff it is in South Tyneside workmen will walk out if tenants light up or they suspect they have been smoking before their arrival

Get a life G W ............by suggesting EVERYBODY else did it, your sounding like a kid whose trying to justify something they have just been caught doing.

Check with your local Environmental Health Department, you migh be surprised at the answers.

I will make no further comment on the reasons people smoke

Just occurred to me, wonder how many Healthy Home / Green / Enviro cleaners are smokers

I wonder how many have converted to LPG in their vans, use solar heating etc etc practising what they preach, on saying that I've told my Missus that she can't have the carpets cleaned before Xmas as I'm fully booked till dooms day.

My next door neighbour has taken to smoking outside her back door since the ban, thereby blowing her smoke into my kitchen when my window is open!
I clean carpets
I dry Buildings

Timely intervention Shaun.............we all have our strengths and weaknesses and the postings on here recently have been fantastically helpfull, caring and displaying a great deal of honesty and credibility, which creates a feeling of security for the "new starts " and some who might be going through a bad patch.

It's very easy to upset people particularly by telling them they MUST comply with what might seem an unreasonable or badly thought out rule / law.

Sadly, every town / city has an area like this.  If I were a politician " which I'm clearly not" I would want every kid leaving school to be able to look forward to earning a wage and feel they were part of society.
