Best way to maintain a new glassfibre pole?
« on: November 03, 2007, 04:29:00 pm »
Got a new pole coming on Monday (18' Xtel in 4 sections) and want to take better care of it than my last one (cheap 18ft Ionics which lasted 3 years!)
Someone suggested spraying each section with Pledge (tm) or similar to protect the fibreglass. Is that  a good idea? I always wipe the pole down as I close it up to minimize grit ingress as well.
Any other suggestions welcome.

Ken

I take the clamps apart using an alan key  and clean out any grit with a cloth, then use pledge on the pole.

I have to say though, that 3 years life out of a f / glass pole is excellant. :) :)

My Ist pole lasted 18 months and I thought I did well with that.

It became a bit of a Frankenstein pole in the last 3 months, got so worn that the first clamp wouldn't hold at times so I had to wrap a bit of tape round it and wedge it in place! But yeah, 3 years not too bad! I'll nip and get some Pledge then, didn't want to find out that it ate fibreglass resin after I'd sprayed a load on!
