Ninja heater shorting out
«
on:
November 07, 2004, 03:10:10 pm »
Hi ,
I've got a ninja with a 3kw immersion heater which has started to short out when the tank is filled and switched on. I cannot see any water escaping out to the electrics and I've resealed the silicone around the heater.
The tank also has a solvent heater copper coil in it which has never been used.
Any ideas or advice would be great
Regards
Bob

The element is probably ''burned out''. You may need to fit a new element to solve the problem.

Bob,
Fintan is probably right - water is passing through the outer tube of the heater and contacting the element.

Thankyou Fintan And John for your advice, I think you are both right and will
give Ashbys a call tomorrow unless any one knows of a cheaper supplier of these heaters.
Thanks again

I have never had any probs with the immersion heater on my ninja but loads of probbs with inline steammate. Ashby's have checked it out and say its ok but trips out in most cases when in use... I have given up with it for now... as trying solutions products and heat not so much an issue.

If you put a multimeter from a heater terminal to earth ie outer casing of the element and you get a resistence the element is burnt out and requires replacing . But if you get no resistence try agian with the element submersed in water. If no resistence element is fine. Paul

I also have a Ninja same spec as you but with an internal steam, Fintan & John are probably are correct. However you don’t elaborate on filling technique and equipment used to fill, and dose it happen on every location.

Len,
It blew on Thursday and has done it every time since when there is water in the tank and the heater is switched on . It's 2 years old so I'll probably replace the element.
Thanks for your input

Phil,
Where do you keep your machine. My inline heater plays up in winter when it is damp So I just try to keep it warm and its ok.
