I have a pub to clean that has SISAL in the bar! Who the h*ll put that down I cannot imagine.
It has greasy marks etc etc on it. I have tried the stuff supplied by the importer and it was partially successful. I am now going to try Solutions no1 with a prespray. The customer wants me to try a wettish clean. The sisal is a very hard weave with the weft pitch at about 10mm. The tops of the 'bobbles' are worn so that the basic reddish colour has gone. The carpet is imported by Crucial Trading.

Instinct tells me to walk away but it is a fairly local local and he has a lot of other carpet to do. He says that if it does not clean he will rip it up and put proper carpet down. Disclaimers come to mind.

So what would you do?

If the guy really wants you to do a wet process on it, and you want too, you must tell him what the implications are very likely to be. Put all of the limitations in writing and get him to sign it.

Frankly though, you're really not doing yourself any favours getting into this. Better to explain and educate, do a fantastic job on the other wet cleanable carpets and he will think more highly of you for sticking to your professional expert knowledge and will more than likely use you again.

I agree with the above, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.  Hopefully your honesty and professionalism will impress the client sufficiently that he will ask you to clean the other carpets.

No mattter what you put in the disclaimer, when the carpets has to be wripped up afterwards people will still hear that it was YOU that failed to clean it.  As professionals we all know that you are on a hiding to nothing with this one, but Joe Public does not.  Definitely one to leave well alone.

went to one to saturday large pub restaurant all sisal, very soiled, with drink and food stains apart from the usual.Must have looked fantastic the first week it was laid.

Asked if I could 'run my cleaner' over it as he is having trouble removing the stains.

I gently explained that I could not clean it for all the obvious reasons and no carpet cleaner that I know would touch it. He was dissapointed (as I was) but  thanked me for my time, unfortunately the rest of the pub has wooden floors so not even any chance of picking up any other business
