BALLS !
« on: October 26, 2007, 08:00:58 pm »
When i first had my T/m ( 18 months ago) I was very concerened about running the hoses across pavement etc.

I got a nice hose ramp from restormate and this made life easier, but sometimes if i couldnt park close to the property i would still get my portable out to do the job.

But i hate using the porty and so, eventually, i got the balls to just run the hose anywhere !

This  week it seems that nearly every job was a pain to get access to    >:(

So this week i have parked at the top of a cul de sac and run 150ft of pipe down the pavement.  ( No drives for the houses on this street , very narrow road, no way to park outside without blocking the road)

Worked in a busy high st, middle of the day, and run 100 ft across the road and down the street ( pedestrian only ).

Run 100 ft up a street of terraced houses.

Dropped 50 ft out of an office window and then another 50ft down the street.

NO PROBLEM !

if I can't see the van, I don't do the job.

I price them up, give them all the spiel then tell them I have to ring a colleague to do the job as I run the industrial unit which can't be used on their particular job because of the health & safety issue with the potential trip hazard,

then I ring a mate who uses  a portable and he gives me a commission on the job.

200ft so far.

Cant tell any difference from 50 ft, but have only used 200ft twice.

Got another 100ft in the garage.

Yes but try untangling the pipe when you lead yourself backwards out of the house!

I would recommend cool cuffs though, very neat they don't pull apart when you are winding the hoses in.

amazing how you can get places, got this job because building custodian wanted no one in building after 7.30 and office was open 7-7 so we did it during the day, and it was fine as most of the noise was outside 4 floors down!

You could clean next to someone on the phone.

Cant believe his luck!!!!!

If that was me the connectors would have come undone right in the middle and I would have spent all day up and down stairs putting them together again.

How long are your pipes (careful).

Murky, if you are asking about my pipes then on this job I think it was about 450 feet.  Can't remember to be honest but thereabouts.  The hoses will never come apart as mostly I will make sure a join is either tied somehow together or as these pictures show, are not gravity or force affected and so just stay together as normal.  There is so much suction anyway I have never had a hose pull apart.  With the solution pressure of a truck mount you wouldn't be able to pull apart a solution hose either.

Best, Dave.

cbt, I understand what you are saying but if you look carefully the tie to the tap is purely to keep the hose off of the tiled cill.  The weight and any force of the hoses is being taken out of view.  Point taken though, maybe I will tie it off somewhere else next time.

Best, Dave.

Len, where would I use the warning signs?  There are cones all around the vans.  The building is empty on my request.  And posted within the building and to the entrance is information of what and when I am doing the what.   Finally the relative council/borough were aware that I would be there and granted me the road access to be cordened off.  It really naffs the traffic wordens off.  If the cones dont cover all the angles then I hope the above did, just in case.

Best, Dave.

P.S. I use corner guards just about anywhere there are corners, inside and outside.  And yes I have guards for both.

Shaun, yes, just one of the things that you can do.
