Had a customer ring today for a price on a Polyester Velvet suite as she described it.

Can anyone tell me if this is wet cleanable ?

Paul, yes it is as is most textiles.  Just remember, lots of brushing but then that goes for all types of velvets.  Best, Dave.

Paul check its not viscose velour,or natural velvet as you may run up against probs on a wet clean.

Only an inspection will reveal what the fabric actually is, but my initial suspicion is that rather than a velvet, this fabric is more likely to be a flocked, short pile velour style.  A longer pile in the style of a velvet fabric would flatten very noticeable if it were polyester and being a lowish resilience fibre would not recover well.

If my presumption is correct, clean as you would the similar Alcantara, Buffalo Hide types of fabric, but check/test first that it is wet cleanable.  Some are dry clean only and will shed face fibre if cleaned incorrectly.

They are also guilty of harbouring dry soiling, so vacuum well

Thanks for the replies guys. I think she is price shopping at the moment as she wanted a price on the phone but I will ring her back tomorrow with a view to a visit for testing as its not far from another job.

i know a c/c who tried to clean poly/velv suite without proper inspection & it ended up costing him £800- just to replace the seating areas alone! he failed to notice that the backing had perished, so when he attempted to clean it the backing was highlighted. there was nothing he could do to correct it. very costly, he even paid me to have ago at it, but to no avail. all he used to clean it was solutions no2.  regards freshi
