Will the diameter of my solution hose affect the flow and psi at the wand.  For example I have a solution hose with a bore of 3/16.  Is this too small?

Mark,

The answer will depend upom the pump and the associated jetting.

A smaller bore pile can restrict the flow rate but with very fine jets this may have no effect on overall system flow. However if it does not permit sufficient flow to service potential jet output for a given pump it can have the effect of increasing pressure above that which would otherwise exist.

Generally a solution hose with .25" internal bore is required to give best performance with the most commonly used jetting range in combination with most pumps used in 100psi+ systems.

I did some experimenting today

Sprayed into a bucket for 1 minute with:

the bane and 150ft of hose on the reel 3/16 diameter - just under 2 litres

the alltec with 25ft (1/4 diameter I think) - just under 3 litres

Bane with 25ft as above - just under 3 litres

Bane with 85ft curled up on the floor as above - just under 3 litres

So my conclusion is that the 3/16 hose reduces my flow.   Pressure is also reduced as I can see this with my eye

The tests you did were presumably with an open hose. With a semi-sealed' system (ie. with correctly jetted tool attached) the results would have differed.

You would find that the flow rate was not reduced as much in proportion to hose length and the pressure loss within the system would be negligible.

With a high-end portable or 'real' TM the open-hose results would also not have been the same.

This is not suggesting that you would not be better served by a .25" hose.

PS.

No offence intended to Baneclean operators, but they do not fit the best pumps.

I used my wand to spray into the bucket.

So my conclusion is right? right?

I have re-read your post -I first thought you had used the Bane hose for all the Bane tests , but perhaps you meant that all but the first test was using the Alltech hose, which might explain some of the apparently surprising results.

Either way, I still feel you would be better off with ¹/₄" hose.
