water tanks

Evening all,

I'm about to start fitting my van out with a wfp system for the first time and I wanted to know what you boy's use to clean your new tanks out with before you start filling it with pure water.

Swill it round till the tds coming out is the same as you put in

A quick rinse is always a good idea!

My dad got an IBC that had been used to ship fibreglass resin,... so he had to rinse it with hardener, and then tap water, then pure water. A bit time consuming,.. but when you get the tanks for free you can't complain!

Hi
The bottom of our 500litre tank was full of bits left behind when it was manufactured. Tried to wash them out with water and the garden hose, but some remained. Once the tank dried out we vacuumed the bottom out the the vacuum cleaner.
No probs

A little detergent and a garden hose. A couple of mine had a Sorbitol solution in them.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the replys I have read them all but have been fitting my system all weekend, I washed the tank out with a garden hose and gave it a good shake. my TDS before ro was 366 after ro and di it was 0 but after going through the tank it went to 17 but after a little while this went down to 3 so I think once all the hose's have been rinsed through a few times I'm sure it will 0.

How do the tds readings compare to what you boy's got when you first got going.

By the time I had filled it with 1000 litres of pure water I think it was about 001. I had made sure that I emptied as much tap water out as possible first.

As long as you've got an inline filter, a few bits won't hurt.
Just get the worst of it out.
