Squeaky,

I like the duck - it demonstrates your humour - and theres nothing wrong in that.

And some of this may have already been said but considering there 6 pages of replies on this topic forgive me but ive only scanned through it.

I would definitely have a landline number diverted to your mobile and have that written on the side of the van (when I started out my first lot of leaflet where printed with a mobile number and although I did get work from it, nowhere near the work I got when I changed the number to a landline)

Also the 2 most important things that are written on the side of your van are 'Window Cleaner' and 'Your Number' so allocate the space they deserve.

I know you've invested a hell of a lot of money in a short space of time but if your struggling so much at the mo, put the sign writting on a back burner for the time being, get some cheap single colour leaflets printed gather up some family and friends and get out and pound those streets you'll be amazed at the amount of customers you'll pick up.

Whatever you decide, I hope it works for you.

Regards

Al

P.S. If you dont like what ive written please dont set Emma on me  ;)
Thanks Alistair, I appreciate the input.

But I think you've got it the wrong way around.
I'm not wasting any more on leaflets when I could have permanant advertising on my van.

Last time I put out 250 leaflets I got 1 yes and 2 maybes.

Why don't you buy an 0845 number and have it diverted to your landline?

I would change the font to make it easier to read and just list all your services under your logo.

Andy

I use an 0845 number.  You can get them free but I wanted an easy to remember one so I paid £200 for mine.  I'll take a pic of my van soon and put it on here.  It's very simple and text only.

Use an image you feel comfortable with, the duck is fine. Its colourfull, amusing and unoffensive ( non threatening)

Maybe think of a strap line to work in conjunction with the duck.

"squeeky clean ...For a "Quacking" good service!"

"Do dirty windows ruffle your  feathers?"

Tired of big window cleaning BILLS?...

Instead of listing every service you provide, maybe.....

" Extrenal Property cleaning service, specialist in PVCu cleaning and renovation."

Mobile phone no is ok, freephone number would be better( 0800)

"Go on..... give the duck a phone"

Hope this gives you something to think about...

Also with your photographic eye, getting the image balance alongside the text right should be fairly easy for you, dont let the price of the graphics stop you from creating what is in your minds eye.

And what I mean by that is, spend a bit  more ( if you have to to get it spot on )
otherwise you may as well stick letters on from the local hardware store. Oh and dont let the vinyl cutter tell you he cant do this or that, he.s talking balloney, tell him "my way or highway"

Good luck

Mark.

250 leaflets - im talking about 5000 - you can get them done for about £50.

I think that the small amount you sent out didnt give you a true reflection of the usual success rate you should expect 2/3 per 100 leaflets I would say is the norm plus calls here and there for months and years (Ive only been going a year - but only last week I got a call from my first leaflet drop) to come.

So from that drop you would expect to get anywhere from 20 + 40 maybes (your figures) to 100/150, but even 20 is pretty good for £50.

But like I said it is your decision im just thinking of the money spent to customers gained ratio, and dont get me wrong I agree with getting your van sign written I got mine back from getting wrapped yesterday  ;D

I can't believe no ones commented on your post mark, that's exactly the kind of thing I expected Squeaks to come up with.

I had similar in mind but was holding out untill he got really ratty.

If it was a competition in my view you would have the best entry. You seldom get thanked though.

We clean:

>fascias

>gutters

>conservateries

And as many thing as you can fit on there. Oh and replace the > with dots ie bullet points.

A website might be an idea and before anyone tries to sell you one, it's easy and cheap enough to build a half decent one

It wasn't me.
The rule is as few words as possible and you are wondering about extra's?

Just looked at your original post. You need to keep the words window cleaner(s).
You don't need domestic and commercial IMO.
personally I would like to see a strap line. Either the one Mark suggested or the other one. You can run this in italics and speech marks right at the bottom side of the van.

Don't start getting wound up over the phone call you are starting to get somewhere with this.

It shows that you are getting noticed, but if you have not had your van done yet it could be someone off here

Maybe if I knew how to squeegy a window I might get the recognition I deserve!!
