Hi all,

Not been on for a while due to other business ventures, but i have recently cleaned a 100% cotton rug, made in a shaggy pile effect and when it dried came up with loads of yellow and brown patches.

I have done the necessary with browning prescription and rinsed but has not made a scrap of difference, normally this fairly successful.

Is there anything else i should be trying, another clean maybe and quicker drying? oxidising bleach?

Your thoughts please?

Steve are you sure its 100 % cotton rug?.

Defo sounds like Cellbrowning.

I had one of these that the customer tried to wash and had done the same thing.

I re-cleaned using Chemspec haitian cotton cleaner and also sprayed on after cleaning.

This cured the problem, and came out a treat.

BUT... I would I would stay away in the future...

unlikely 100% cotton but very likely to be cellulosic browning (any jute running though it?)

Cotton can brown through water damage, I have some curtain linings in my home that have gotten it on, before you go gung-ho try small bits of browning prescription then the oxy challenge reciepe.

I have seen a few of these rugs. One was in 2 shades of cotton... grey and white.

Definately 100% cotton, including the backing.

Take a very close look before cleaning.

I would not normaly clean one of these unless a regular custy who is well informed of thier own risk.

It's definitely 100% indian cotton, will have a go at the browning prescription again and see if i can get it dry quicker!

Prochems Firebuff mixed with Oxibrite should cure the problem.

Steve! I had a similar problem a few weeks ago and cured it using Chemspec coffee stain remover, but I am sure you could use any brand

Cheers stuart & mark, think i will have a go at both, they seem sensible solutions and anything is worth a try, just cant understand why the browning prescription is not shifting it? Has always done so in the past!

I think where it is such a heavy rug and all cotton at that it took too long to dry even with a heater and blower on it!

Any how back to the cleaning!

Hi all, just quick update on the yellow rug,

treated rug with hydrogen peroxide mixed with ammonia and dried with heat,i

t made a small improvement so repeated process four times and it looked acceptable, but was some small patches of yellow around edges and in middle, barely noticeable tho!

Main thing is the customer was happy and understnading, never known a rug like it, a very heavy 100% indian cotton rug, it took three days to dry with heat and blowers.

Still a happy ending i think, although i feel i maybe could of treated a few more times, but had already had the rug three weeks so was anxious to get it back to the customer.
