What a cheek!
« on: October 07, 2007, 09:16:18 am »
I had to go to see a prospective new customer last week. Good road, detached house with two Mercs in the drive.
The owner of the house showed me round and I gave him my price which he seemed to accept and then he said something I find amazing.
He said "OK then, I will give you a try. You can clean the windows next week and if I'm satified I'll pay you"

Er no........  Thats probably how he got the big house and the two Mercs.

I have had a few customers in the past who have said they weren't happy afterwards as a way of getting out of paying but I have never had anyone say that up front before.
Clearly he fails to appreciate the subtle nature of my terms of business. The man was a foreigner so maybe thats how they treat window cleaners in his country.

I take it that has been simmering in your head since he said that to you as you are only posting this now ;D

Some people think that we are there to treat as servants and we should be greatful to them for throwing little scraps i am always polite to customers new or old but to be spoken to in that manner is something i will not accept i would make my excuses and leave telling them that other w/cers might work like that but i need paid

I have just been sacked by 1 women who said she thought the window would be better.

When I first started 3 cleans ago every window was minging, all of the white work was green and the conservtory roof, you counldn't see out off.

When I cleaned them this week, every window was sparkling, the white work was like new and you could of got sunstroke if you were in the conservatory from the clear and clean glass roof.

I don't know what else she was expecting, but in a few months her windows will be green with aglea again.

If it was like that on the outside it was probably the same inside and you doing a good job on the outside just showed up the insides...... some folks eh ::)

Get it all the time - one customer moaned about the previous cleaner stealing £100 off them turns out they paid in advance and he never came back. They don't mind treating me the same though - always behind with their payments.

It's the ones that "Pop out to the shop" half way through the clean, which is fine by me,.. often custies do this to go to the cash machine,.... but the ones who go out and simply don't come back,... that bugs me. It happened a few times when I'll be in the same street for a couple of hours, and they still haven't returned by the time I'm finished.
