What would you guys charge? (with pics)
« on: October 05, 2007, 07:29:49 pm »
Hi All,

This evening I went to look at this house to quote for window cleaning the outside & inside.

As you can see it's currently being renovated, but will be completed in a couple of weeks. The windows are all proper leaded ones (not old and leaky though), there is dust on all windows inside and out, some cement (not a lot) and some stickers on a few windows.

Breaking it all down there are 52 standard sized windows.

It's a one-off clean for the building company. One of the owners of the building company is already a customer of mine and that's why I was asked to quote.

How much would you quote?

I already have a price in mind... But thought it would be interesting to see what you guys would charge.

52 windows. £1 a window.

say £50 for outside normally, £50 for inside, and then the builders clean another £50

£150 all in.

£75 quid a clean ( outside )

£100 for the insides

builders clean, i guess they wont be that bad as its a old house and they wouldnt have had much "wet trades" done, add 50% onto the above prices

Cant understand this forum you got people charging £70 for small conservatory roofs which is high. then people giving low prices like £50 for this job. I would Quote a min of £125 and at the most £150 depending how much cement is on the glass.

I'd look at it as a day, so £130-150.

If it's quicker than I thought and I'm away by 2 or 3PM, then it's a winner.

£80 in and out and a promise of a regular job at £30 out monthly

£100 as a one off

£60 in and out If I was stuck for cash (cash only)

if it is dirty it is fair game

Interesting replies...

I'm surprised at how low some of you guys have quoted.

This is how I worked it out (there are 52 windows):

Outsides
£2 per window = £104

Insides
£3 per window = £156

Total
£260 +25% (incase something goes wrong / takes longer than I think) = £325

I'll let you know what they say.

Andy is that your normal price structure or just for one off cleans - builders clean?

No. My normal pricing structure is £1.50 per window for outsides, £2 for insides.

I'm quoting this higher because it's a one-off builders clean. Although I'll also make sure I'm the window cleaner for the new people that move in  ;)

If you get £325 for that then you are doing very well, I would be pricing the job at between £125 - £175 depending upon what the windows were like, as it's impossible to tell from your photos.

What renovation work has been carried out, is it cement on the outside windows or just a splash of plaster on the insides.

We've got a BIG domestic new build job to do on Tuesday/Wednesday, full builders clean including windows on two properties priced at £1.3M and £1.5M.  I'll stick some photos on here when I get them just for interest.

I cannot believe how expensive you guys are. I would make £110 an hour at those rates!

For builders cleans though, I DO charge quite a lot.

£1.80 per window for exterior (Because they need ladder/scaffold)
£1.20 per window for interior (Stepladder at the most)

However, I wouldn't do this one as it is leaded. Very difficult to use a scraper on leaded. You end up cutting into the lead.

You're right it is hard to tell how bad the windows are from the photos... They aren't really really bad, but will require quite a bit of scraping.

I think I will be on my own when I clean it (if I get it), so I estimated a day and a half  as a worse case scenario. I would want to get them perfect!

sorry guys i didnt read it properly at all £60 was my regular monthly(outside) price i would prob quote £120 for insid and outside.

But if it was a buliders clean it would go from anywere between x2-x5 depending on how bad.
