removing oil of flags, blockpaving, concrete tarmac etc
« on: October 04, 2007, 01:21:31 pm »
hi , i have been using a strong traffic film remover to remove oil  but its not doing the job properly.  i put it on , leave it for a while, then pressure wash off, i repeat this a few times, because the drive is wet you cant tell if it has gone, so you ring customer next day when its dry only to find out its still there,   on some jobs i have had to go back about 5 or 6 times and i ended up saying to the customer thats as good as it will come out.  its very hard to get out.   anyone any suggestions please apart from replacing the affected area?  do you have good results?? :'(

I use steam to start with and if this doesn't work (will only work 100% on new oil spots) I use an off the shelf product by Thompsons - 'Drive cleaner and Oil remover' I think it is called.  Pour on neat, scrub in and leave for 10-15 minutes, then steam out.  Have had great success with this product and it is not expensive.  Many amazed customers.  DON'T use on tarmac, there are other products for this.
If the mark remains, it is probably Diesel... a  nightmare to shift.

Hope this helps

You will always get better results on grease and oil with hot water (try washing a saucepan with cold water and see what happens!).
You can get 'hot boxes' that you can bolt onto your existing kit... some on ebay I saw recently.

I am trying to use a biological product ive forgotton the name of (with varying results)  but I also use a degreaser from tech clean with a cold pressure washer. just drop on enough to wet the stain being careful not to drip elsewhere leave 5 mins and wash off.  thats it job done!

only down side is you need to do it when the brick is dry but other than that its dead easy and apart from the occasional trace being left (hardly noticable and acceptable considering what was their!) you wont be dissapointed.

18.95 for 5ltrs,prob last you 5 years!!!!!
