Charges-Ashbys
« on: October 28, 2004, 12:29:00 pm »

Please be aware of the following if you order from ASHBY's.

They say any order  over a hundred pound is free deliverey yet not for the first time they have charged me £12.00, and by paying with a credit card they charge yet another £12.

I hope they read this board and I would like to see their reply. If its was an oversight then my own experiance todate is its a pretty consistant one, and do they wait for you to ring them up.

We all aim to please our customers, but what is their take on this?. Reading other posts on this board and my own experience it leaves alot to be desired.

I intend to check the small print on their website that relate to these charges, it they don't exist then I'm going to the trading standards.

A lot on here will take that on board catman.

I suggest you contact them and let them know you will be taking you business elsewhere from now on.

There is no way I will pay £24 mark up on any products just for the privilege of doing business with them.

Congratulations.

You have now realised that 99% of carpet cleaning suppliers are only interested in making money and not after sales service.

This is from my own personel experience.

Any chance of the facts first, your profile would help is that you could be that you are in Ireland and not UK main land Re £12 for credit card use you musts of spent £400.

Have to admit credit card charges should if not already be absorbed in the price; how every there must be a minimum, sadly some may tag it on as a bonus, how are we to know! But if advised of this extra charge, they must be on a good screw, sorry Derek.

I recently bought a replacement pond line it came to £208 inclusive not matter which way I paid.

Mark

Though I agree with you but it two-side coin I wonder haw many cc also fit this bill?

I brought a SteamMate at the Carpex show they charged me £12 for delivery >:( and over £15.00 for credit card charges >:

They also promised that the item was in stock and I would receive it for Wednesday. I never had this problem with other businesses I have had.

WELL IT WAS NOT IN STOCK WHICH COST ME THE JOB I HAD BOOKED IN FOR THURSDAY WHICH I NEEDED A HEATER FOR >:(

I WILL NOT BE DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN NOR WILL I RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYBODY

I find  delivery charges and surcharges very confusing and makes me reluctantant to order anything,

If orders over £100 carriage free  why are you charged carriage on steamate/
As most people have to have it sent why isnt the price including delivery.

I also had bad vibes about ashbys,i made an approach to them about the "ninja" wheeley bin  and they were on the phone 2/3 times a week, went and bought an altech machine, cant say i was treated to well although i did spend about 4k, it would seem that as cc we dont get the same level of service or respect, that we give/ show to our clients!!!!!!!

We are smaller, and we are better ;D

I did here a supplier say that his organization had forgotten what business
they are in and that they do need to loook at the service they give carpet cleaners.

I want transparencey. I see no reason why you should have to pay extra for credit card transactions.

Price list for parts and service charges for machines.

Carriage charges explained.

Full price list on Web Sites if products are advertised.

A company can only charge a customer the fee that the company is being charged to use a credit card.

WilliamX was charged £15 in credit card fee's. I doubt if that was the percentage on the transaction.

We are in the process of using Streamline through Nat West.
Credit cards are charged at between 2.7 and 2.9% and debit cards have a 45p charge.

Deposit refunds are charged at 70p for credit cards and 45p for debit.

We don't intend to pass this onto the customer, we will swallow it. It is a small price to pay for not having the risk of bouncy cheques or waiting 4 weeks for an invoice to be paid by cheque.

We deal with A&M Watford who's customer service and after sales is absolutely fantastic with no exceptions.

Hi everyone,

I have been interested in what has been said about Ashby's.

I have dealt with them for a number of years and have at last count seven of their extractors plus other pieces of kit.   I have found them always to be pleasant to deal with and quite helpful if there has ever been a problem.

Derek Ashby is a gentleman and his sons and staff have always been a pleasure to deal with.

I am in Scotland but have no problems sending machines to them for servicing other than usual of carriers not coming when they say they will.

They are not a cut price organisation but who can be if they are to have the premises, staff and spares to carry out their service.   They are quite entitled to set their trading terms particularly as they are quite upfront about it and from my side I am quite happy to use my switch when paying.

Nicky from Big_Fish makes a valid point when she mentioned bouncy cheques and waiting for 4 weeks for an invoice to be paid.   I think Derek will tell you that is why he has decided not to offer credit.

Any company is quite right in absorbing credit card costs if they make that decision, however, it can be argued that is to the cost of everyone else who pays using another method because at the end of the day we must charge enough to achieve the financial and profitability targets each should set.

Nicky of Big_Fish - A little side note - Many JW's are carpet cleaners.

Regards,

Keith

Hi guys

I have to agree with Keith what he said, I like and know them all down at Ashbys and they have helped me a lot. I worked with Derick on a couple of contracts and it was like a free training course.

I understand both side of the coin here - My dealings with Martin have been very good, however, I do feel Ashby's let their business slip with the after sales side and the sales of chemicals. I personally got the feeling it was "I've got your money now", however, I had that out with Martin and he told me he was sorry and he didn’t want to run the business that way; I still continue to buy from them as I like the products.
I think if you as a business were charged 3.5% for accepting money then you have to pass that on regardless of the customer unless you add this on to everyone who buys from you. What needs to be sorted out here is the true facts of the matter, Catman if the small print explains you pay £12 for deliveries to Ireland then unfortunately that's your problem and not Ashby’s and also if the £12 extra represents the 3.5% again unfortunately that's your beef and not theirs. I would say that if it doesn’t then I’m totally behind you on this one and judging by the response I think this is something Ashby’s need to look in too.
