wool/crystal green
« on: September 28, 2007, 06:43:32 pm »
I did a pub carpet over a year ago the guy had just taken over the pub and it was filthy ,anyway he needed the carpet doing for new years eve celebrations as it was really really dirty with loads of blacktop and your feet stuck to it as you walked etc. He asked whether I could get it looking  nice  for New years as he was replacing it come jan or feb. To cut a long story short the carpet was a wilton (wool) and after trying all sorts I wasnt making much of an impression so after speaking to him he gave me the go ahead to use what I needed to clean it as it was going to be replaced  anyway so I presprayed with multipro and HWE with crystal green, Then  HWE again with fibre and fabric rinse in an attempt to minimise any damage, any way it came up amazingly clean and we were both happy.
Got a call yesterday from him can i book him in for early dec ready for xmas, I went and quoted today and its the same carpet..he didnt replace it as it was so clean! I have checked the carpet and I cant see any difference compared to wool I have cleaned in a woolsafe manner. Its not even very dirty, just as would be expected in a pub.
I suppose my question is can you do this to wool if you rinse finally with an acid? Or was this a one off?
Thanks
ollie

Ollie, I  know very few cleaners who uses Woolsafe products to clean pub carpets. That doesn't mean its right. But I cleaned Newcastle Breweries carpets for years with Formula 90 powder. They only had them cleaned when told to by the environmental health officer. Never had a problem.

Ollie, you can clean it with anything you like as long as you leave it neutral pWe scrub in strong enzme all the time which isn't woolsafe but  then we rinse out with Chemspecs liquid high heat which is an acid encapulating chemical and leaves the carpet ph neutraL

Woolsafe training will tell you that, if after consideration, Woolsafe Approved products are deemed unsuitable for the task in hand, then by all means use more aggressive products in order to obtain a result. It would always be wise to discuss the issues with your client/prospect before hand, and perhaps make a note on the quotation that you will be working outside Woolsafe Best Practice for the reasons stated.

In Ollie's case above, he took the wise precaution of neutralising afterwards with an acidic rinse. The next clean, from his description, should be easier. It may well be viable to now use safe on wool products although some may be a little slower to use than the more aggressive alternatives.

Safe and happy cleaning :)
