Just came across a site ( well known franchise ) who are cleaning with ; -

Advanced Ionisation and Magnetism to pull the dirt out................any one know something that's passed me by.

Last I heard, they were using a l/m rotary

This is an old one i belive (but could be wrong) they are refering to the part of the cleaning process where the Ions in the soil are attracted to the Protons in the Detergent (or something like that), as i understand it this happens with most cleaning solutions.  Im sure some of the more experienced members will put me right.

Thanks for your comment Aqua' but I'm no novice...............your description, is similar to how you might describe the action of a colloidal cleaner, which was originally used in the Dry Cleaning industry, as an aid to emulsifying soil, keeping it in suspension, making rinsing easier.

Don't think that's what they're about  ( Dirtbusters )

it's the old positive and negative ion thing, stain busters and magna dry use it. I can remember Mick Halliday going to do a quote at a Hull Nightclub and saying that the carpet cleaned by it was very good. Apparently they clean upholstery with a hand mitt only.

I'd like to have a go.

I did go against them on a nightclub quote, they did a demo, I told the owner if they can do it that good with a L/M system get them to do the job!!

but they did spend 2 hours on a 10ft x 10ft section

Is this using ionised, or de ionised water, such as a window cleaner might use?

Carpet Guy,

Look up the priciples of Bronsted Acidity and Lewis Acidity.

They will be using lewis bases to "electro-magnetically" attract the soil without the pH being too high.

Ammonia is a good lewis base - has the ability to chelate without being ionised.  IMO its all just sales rubbish as most cleaning agents are like this, they just have a different spin on it.

If you have anything on the chemical makeup of colloidals, please send me it.  I would love to look into what all the fuss is about.
