In 90% of cases customers are not concerned with what products we use as long as their carpets are clean and stains removed.

How many carpet cleaners can honestly say they are completely eco friendly? Not many my guess ::)

I guess that depends on what area of the country you live in the green thing is very big down here and many of my customers use me because of it!

I agree with Goron. About half my new customers ask when I arrive these days and the proportion keeps rising. Maybe it's geographical though coz I am about as South as it gets.

Maybe it's bigger in the South due to the marketing efforts of Goron and the other Eco members, who are more concentrated in that area.

who are you kidding ?yourselves
what difference does down south make,? none !
I guess that most of your so called green custys drive chelsea tractors, use vast amounts of waitrose and sainsburys carrier bags, buy all prepacked food wrapped and packaged in non degradable wrapping, and supply themselves with endless cleaning and cosmetic products, How green is that?
Oh , and no doubt take at least a couple of holidays a year jetting of to far away places

when I last changed my leaflet i added a picture and a child playing with a dog ( it looks really sweet ;) ) with the words;

pets & children in your Home?
concerned about what chemicals are used to clean your carpet & soft furnishing?
ask about our environmentally friendly,
 chemical-free green cleaning

I've had about 200,000 put out so far, guess how many people have asked about 'green cleaning'......NONE

so I would say in east Yorkshire they could'nt care less about saving the planet!! or perhaps they aren't as gullible as down south.

maybe your message to market match does not fit. maybe that the people you market to don't care. with all marketing you match your message to the group you are talking to. The more and many different groups you talk to with messages that match the more they fit with that group and the more success you will have, but i don't have to tell you that mike you where in sales after all.

people in big houses will not be interested in cheap stuff, and middle aged people have more money to send  (no kids) than time and will spend that money on increasing that time.  (have cleaners, Gardner's, etc) just two examples of different groups. mix the message and you find people are not interested. match it and you have a much better chance.

leaflets have no set market they are a shot gun approach, they don't discriminate. my leaflets go to a high class area with quality, intelligent customers.

to try and target 'green customers' with leaflets would be pointless, it's too small a market segment, a leaflet has too appeal to as wider audience as possible.

but you would think if green cleaning was as big as some people make out I would get a small spark of interest.

with respect, this market would best be approached with "network marketing" one interesting point lots of my clients have Eco cleaning products under the sink. as I have said before people are trying their best to be green. One other point do you market that your TM? that might be putting this market off?

As you well know that you cant know the buying process of each customer but you can look and ask for reasons. many cleans are done for family events, and not because it time to have them cleaned. would be nice if this was the case.

I bet you have at some time had a run on mums that know each other, (a Group) or old people. now i know you are the master when it comes to market to old people.

if "groups" of people did not talk to each other we would not have any recommendations. it the process of chatting within these groups that it happens. we just have to find our way into these groups. and that's though message to market match.

I hear what you are saying about leaflets and i know you are very good at marketing with them, but just adding a line in to reach out to a group in my view will not do it. an offer would be better. but first you must convince them, you can do this though recorded messages or web pages. maybe getting a free site and putting in the URL into the leaflet would work better?

BTW solutions do very well with the green marketing and its not in your face just an added benefit of using them

Your enthusiasm is is great, but sometimes, the truth is out there and has been discovered already, by some astute people, one of whom would most certainly be Mr Halliday.

Just seen your following post Ian......................some of us have been around pre Joe Polish, etc and are VERY well aware of all of these INITIATIVES you are plageurising.

Consider who you are posting to........................segment your market........................how ?

Ask questions on here rather than preach, as if you actually know all of the answers and are a true innovator, rather than a convert.

Also, I have to say your use of the word " respect " is beginning to sound condescending, which is abviously not your objective.

I really love your enthusiasm and ability to use a computer, but you need to moderate your approach and remember you are talking, in many instances, to some skilled marketers, who've already used the stuff you're basing your thinking on and could, if they put their mind to it, take you apart.

Ian remember Allerg-stop was going to be the next big thing failed miserably did solutions get the marketing wrong for that or was that our fault. Then they moved onto the eco friendly angle mainly because the machine they sell has no heater fitted so they start brain washing people that cleaning with cold water is better for the enviroment.

Ian, your link to a charity site is commendable :-* :-*

I can understand Carpet Guys point of view, I read all your post with interest, but I often think you are wrapped up in a theoretical world of marketing & its relation to carpet cleaning, you are very good at searching out information and adapting it to carpet cleaning but to then recommend this adaption to be used by others is wrong,

I'm waiting for you to say;

'I used this ...... ( eg; salesletter) sent out 100 and got back 4 jobs'

then this would be a proven sales tip and not just an idea you've adapted.

keep up the good work :D :D you are the person on this site I'd most like to meet ;)

It aint what you say, it's the way that you say it ? I'm afraid I missed the point about the charity, as my attention followed the posts.

Having taken a look at it, my cynical mind wonders............who will really benefit from the charity, we have to compete with so called, charitable organisations, who for some strange reason, get priority from local authorities getting the bigger contracts, allowing a few " directors" to earn large salaries.
