I have recently bought a new powermax. I would now like to have a machine that is suitable for using with dry / sponge cleaning products such as host or envirodry and one that is also suitable to use to agitate wet pre - sprays.

I am not sure which one to go for but would like to keep costs down if possible. I expect that most of the time it would be used to agitate as I envisige that the majority of cleaning will be HWE rather than dry cleaning. The Sebo seems to be the cheapest but does look like a very flimsy piece of kit and may be false economy.

Do any of you actually use a good old fashioned brush to agitate manually and not bother with a machine at all?

Any advice welcome.

I use a Sebo Duo and it has been great so far, however, I do carry a spare in case it breaks (hasn't so far, fingers crossed).
The envirodry is supposed to be very good but is quite pricey... depends on how much you want to throw at it I suppose. (You can buy 8 second hand Sebos for one Envirodry... my second hand one is 12 months sold and still going strong... you watch, it'll burn out tomorrow!!!)

You're inviting a variety of individual's opinions, by asking this  question, and will probably get the usual replies.
The first aggitation I used was attached to a machine ! It seemed the logical answer all these years ago, but what I found, was the brushes bristles were...........too short and too dense, something I felt was a fault in the little Sebo also.
IMO the most thorough and quickest aggitation is obtained from a rotary. You have a choice of brush or a variety of bonnet types to suite the job in hand.

Like I said, it depends on how much money you want to spend... if you have the cash then why not go for the best.

General comments on this forum suggest that the Sebo DUO is satisfactory for pre-spray agitation, but not as good as the heavier Envirodri machine.  But bearing in mind that the warranties of either don't cover use as a 'wet' agitator, I reckon the much cheaper DUO would be finacially wiser.  However if the proper Dry Clean capability is desired, then from what I've witnessed of the Envirodri, you can't get better (in view of the limitations of course).  Oh, I forgot to mention, I use an 18" carpet brush for agitation since: 1. YOU control the force, and 2.  The exercise feature is HEALTHY !

The problem I have with the Duo is if you get an uneven surface say a twist or embossed pattern it just goes over the surface. You also have to pick the crap out of it regularly.

I was thinking of getting a small rotary/orbital for these jobs, esp if using m/s.

I'm with pete. Keep fit by using a pile brush and more so by hand brushing the very dirty areas. As he says, you control the force.

I would probably purchase the Oreck orbital because we do a fair bit of stripping and sealing of Karndean and amtico flooring in the domestic sector and this machine would also be usefull as agitation of microsplitters
I have no intention of paying in exess of £1000 for an Envirodry machine as i would only be using it for agitation
