INLINE TDS .. WATER IN.. IS RISING
« on: September 13, 2007, 07:30:02 pm »
Hi,

Normally i have a good softish water, with tds before going through R/O unit , at between 80 and 100 tds....

but lately its crept up to around 150 -200 mark.. why is this?

also i have just set it up to fill my tank, and it started at 137 tds,

but i still got it down to 000... but i thought i would hang around and keeps an eye on it.... good job i did....

it rose from 137 to 238 ..... and my r/o unot  struggled but managed to get it down to 002....

but as its still rising i turned the whole thing off as i cant leave it unattended as i may end up with a tank full of crap water....

i will check it out later to see if the water is any better.

does anyone know the reason for the rise in my tap water...please?

nothing different with pressure in the house... but a stone throw away.. a house has been built and yesterday he had people digging up, i presumed it was the water.. but not sure....

but why does it rise as its goin in to my ro?... it normally counts down, not up.

thanks guys.

Gary

My water at the tap is about 350 and the r/o brings it to about 008.

But I do find that after a dry spell it creeps up to 400 and the r/o 010.

Then I run it through resin to store at 000
It's a game of three halves!

Hi, just a thought; Is your Inline TDS working OK ?, could be that its giving you wrong readings, can you check with a handheld TDS unit ?.
If they are both OK and giving similiar readings, then perhaps you should use a pre-filter, it could be that you have some build up in your plumbing.
Otherwise contact your water supplier, they know what TDS reading you should be getting. Terry

Waterboards draw their water from various locations so it could rise if they are drawing from a different location this week. Over a 12 month period mine has been as low as 240 but has peaked at 360.
But as you said about building work going on then there is the possibility that by disturbing the pipes they have dislodged particles from the edge of the pipework that normally would stay put. Worse case senario is that they have ruptered the pipework so it is drawing dirt in to it. Is the tap water clear or has that changed.
Finally there is the possibility that the waterboard is running a cleaning agent through the system. Haven't seen this for years but I remember the water (when they did it) coming out like lemonade, all fizzy.
