Hi all...i recently was asked to replace some matting that had been ruined (by animals??!!) as well as cleaning the carpets.

I was told the mat was made of coconut fibre?I assume its easy to get hold of,trim and tack down??

Any advice guys?

Think I remember that is is similar (if not same) as sisal/jute so don't touch. Would put on a line and give it a few good wacks. Ken or someone like that will be certain so don't proceed on my say so alone but water is a big no no.

i was buying some carpet last week and they had a huge roll of it, so I would believe any carpet shop should be able to get hold of it  just cut it to size.

I presume that you mean the Coir barrier matting?

Typically used as well mats. Cut from the back and, in a well, cut between 1/8" and 1/4"(on larger mats) too short. The mats will grow and buckle if not cut slightly short.

Many retailers carry stock and cut from the roll. By far the cheaper way of buying it.

Coir can be bought in other forms too, such as woven carpet and mats.  Outside mats, not, IMO, a practical option.

I cleaned a carpet last week where a coconut fibre rug had been, it was a Yellowy colour and the carpet underneath had turned Yellow..  It had also changed the grain of the carpet to the same patern of the rug grain.  Been like that for 4 years they said..   Colour came out fine though.
