Can WFP clean 'minging' windows?
« on: September 04, 2007, 08:37:40 pm »
I have been asked to clean some windows that don't look like they have been done for years! He also wants the uPVC frames to be cleaned.

They are inaccessible by ladders.

They will also be difficult to do with WFP because of their position (over pitched roofs) and various obstacles in the way - preventing the best angle for the pole.

They should really be cleaned by hand first time as they look 'greasy'.

Will WFP make any impression on the glass, if it is greasy?
Will WFP manage to clean the frames?

Thanks for any response.

Can you access them from inside to clean the worst off with Cillit Bang or similar before rinsing them using WFP? I had a guy the other day, one of my first customers, whos windows were literally caked with brown slime - not sure how he managed to live as there's no way you could see out and it hardly let any light in. I charged him 3x normal rate as it took me three times to clean the bloody window!

Got some photos of it - I'll chuck them online.

Hi,

Because i am new to w/c.... and i started wfp nearly straight away..

i encounted lots of these type of first cleans,..

i simply took my time and really gave them a good old scrub.....
tell you what worked for me on those...

i hooked my pole up to the customers hose pipe, blasted it clean ... without wasting my pure water.... scrub scrub scrub ....

then went for a fAg...

then cleaned and rinsed,...( really rinsed ) with pure water...

not one complaint and they are all lovely , highly satisfied monthly customers now...

give it a ago.

Gary.

Sounds like you need a swivel on your brush?
It won't touch grease.

It will bring UPVC frames up like new, I did a first clean today on windows that had not been touched in 5 years, I first did all the frames and windows, then I gave it all the glass only  a second clean, I thought the custy was going to have a baby when he first seen them,it turned a custy wanting his windows done every 12 weeks into a custy wanting them done every 6 weeks, (speaks for itself I think)

I found it very difficult to clean grease, when the custy has been useing the BBQ by a window, its to much hard work for wfp and like LWC said it contaminates the brush so you can't use it on other windows until its cleaned.

Jeff... on the subject of cleaning brushes... what gets them clean?! I think I've picked up some grease or wax or something on my brush and it doesn't seem come off with Fairy liquid....

Sheep,

i diluted tfr one night, left my brush in it overnight... it had cleaned it totally in the morning... rinsed it under outside tap.....
cleaned my own windows as a tester... perfect.

Gary.

Ps. my brother had dropped the brush in pressure washer oil.

Windows that 'appear' greasy are not actually greasy as such, they are just really grimy.
Grease itself of course is not water soluble so won't readily come off using just WFP.
BBQ grease is awful, it is almost similar to the inside of an oven door, not easy to get clean with trad let alone WFP!

If windows are really grimy, see if you can connect up to the householders water supply, wet the windows (regardless of what water you are using) and as fiddly as it may be, dip your brush into a bucket of diluted detergent (TFR is ideal of course) and wash windows and frames down with this.
I'm not sure, but I think I've heard that Tucker do an 'auto feed' system with their poles and brushes for detergent...could be wrong though...something like this would be ideal for those 'minging' jobs.

Maybe Gardiners will develop one!  ;)

Having washed frames and windows down with detergent, cleaning them up with pure water afterwards should be quite straight forward, just be sure to get rid of all suds!

Thanks Gary, don't have any TFR but found some Swarfega car wash stuff which said it removed grease so left the brush in that for an hour or so and it seems to have done the trick! Has stopped raining now too.... good timing :) :) :)

if a customer uses a BBQ near a window that I clean I tell them off i a joking way that they take in, one it makes my job harder 2 it pits the glass (melts it) (I work that angle) that stops it for the future  ;)
