is it worth having a website?
« on: September 03, 2007, 12:59:55 am »
just started  traditional and aiming only at domestic,my priority is getting any work to get money in.i dont see a website as any sort of priority right now or possibly even in the future apart from making myself feel good(suppose thats a benefit). i fully expect to still be window cleaning in 12 months time and longer.however i dont want to spend the next 12 months paying for stuff i should never have bought or paid out for in the first place so the question is,is a website worth it from the start?

Hi,

If I were you I'd try and get a website - it's only going to be £15 or so for the year if you get a good deal and it will make you stand out from the cowboys who are in it for a quick buck. A lot of people now do search for window cleaners online - for instance, Google has a "local" directory that will list your website if you have one - and putting one together only takes a few hours as it's much like writing a word document.

You can also get a 0845 number for free which can help - just route it to your landline and use your phone to forward calls to your mobile when you're out on the move (or get the trouble and strife to field the calls!).

This forum has loads of cheap special offers for hosting - look for the threads with the most replies as they're usually the best deals: -

This site has loads of free images you can use to help build your website: -

And this company has free 0845 numbers: -

Sean, In my opinion a website while its a nice touch and looks good on the stationary and on the side of the van etc is not a priority, but as xpw said they are prety cheap to ste up and maintain so its probably worth having
But I would expect that you would not get a large amount of work from it, and if moneys tight right now an ad in your local paper or church bulletin may go farther towards getting new work
If you do go the website route keep it simple , people want to know who you are ,where you are , what you do and a rough idea of what your prices are
save the glowing logos etc for when you are a bigger company

i would say yes it is shows you are in business and act that way, many a dinosaur will say you dont need to have one IMO dont listern. Many of the people that i talk to all do ok or very well from a website, is a good reference point if people want to know more about you is also good for companies that do not know your company name that are searching online for a window cleaner, if you are not online you dont have a chance (obvious really). have a look at my site  ;) i can help you with it and I am alot cheaper than 90% of website companies as I do this when i have finished window cleaning  ;)

yep, putting things in peoples letter boxes gives you about 5 seconds of there time they base you on it, have done this for years trial and error. having a website address on it is a very small outlay (one customer from it pays for it) gives the people the option to find out more without calling and trust me many dont call (highly annoying when they get another window cleaner because they dont like talking on the phone.

give me a bell 01234 870 225 im up i'll have a chat with you (thats if you like to talk on the phone lol.

yup. vistaprint do free business cards, or you can have other options and pay - but still very very cheap :)

Crystal:

On your website the invitation to ask for a quote says "Quote Me Know"

Shouldn't that be "Quote Me Now"?

do you need a website ?? ?? ?

not really

lets look at what a website will bring you :)

when people see your details ( biz card , van signage etc etc ) they will see you have a website, it looks a little more professional, it gives them more info on you and what you do

it will allow people to pay online via paypal / nochex etc etc

lets be honest, i website will set you back £25 a year ( if that ) its not going to break the bank and it'll help with image
