Hi Sharon
You propbably arn't doing anything wrong as such. Getting business doesn't come quickly. I don't advertise a great deal now cause early on in trading I was taken for a right chump with some advertisers! I still have YP which I know alot of people on this site have said it didn't work for them but for us its been good, plus yell.com.  I did however deliver 1500 postcardswhich I had made up rather than leaflets and we received 15 regular clients from these. Hang on in there, our reputation gets us more business than anything else.
Good luck :)

Find anybody who has home owners as a customer base - and work a deal with them.

For example - a plumber, gardener, window cleaner, oven cleaner, estate agent, ANYBODY who has a list of customers who trust him/her. You offer to write to the plumbers customers offering something exclusive for his/her customers and also some sort of incentive for the plumber.

Say a discount for his customers and £10 per contract for him. All the plumbers customers have to do to claim their special is send a coupon (in the mailing) to the plumber (so he is confident he will get his commission from you) and he sends it to you - simple.

Of course the details can vary but you get the idea......find people who already sell to your ideal customer and hitch a ride.

Stop chasing after customers directly - this is FAR more effective and less costly(time and money).

Oh yes - if you can tell him you will write the letter(he has editorial control), pay for the printing and posting etc so he has NO expense - has happy customers (becaue he's got them a deal) and earns £10 per contract/job.

P.S. ALL businesses are looking for additional income sources at the moment - and you can give it to them!

Hi Sharon,
Why not try advertising in local newsagents etc. I've received a few call this way and its very cheap £4 for 6 week.
Good luck

About 60% of my work comes from people noticing the van and referals.... I'm with Yellow Pages and Thomson directory and they provide almost 1%. Make of that what you will!

Top tip.... Park up your well sign written van in a prominent place!

Good luck!!!!
