Stuck in a rut!!!
« on: August 29, 2007, 07:51:36 pm »
hey peeps, i've been doing jobs at weekends as i had a full time job. I have just lost my full time job and dont no where to go from here?

Guess i will have to fine more work pronto, there are a few sites nearby. i do builders cleans and the odd domestic cleans.

Does anyone have any ideas?

You could do what i did - get a part time supermarket job out of office hours and then try to build up the number of domestic clients you have. Leaflet the areas you want to work in and aim for regular domestic work - even if you only want one-off work the regular jobs will see you through.

cheers

You could also target your local Letting Agents to do their EOT cleans - good earners and shouldn't be much of a problem for you seeing as you already do Builders Cleans.

When i say out of hours there is also saturday and sunday...and dont think that just because the shop is closed no-one is working there....the Tesco i worked in opened at 8am on a Monday and closed at 10pm on the following saturday BUT there were people in all manner of different departments working when the shop was closed.

Well, you did ask m8! I'm just thinking about how you can go get some ready cash and supermarkets are always looking for staff.

It was Richy who suggested estate agents, i myself have never approached any myself -sorry- but it sounds like a good idea.

You could do either/both. But if I was you I'd firstly put together a good company info pack to include an introduction letter with the work your offering, t&c's, insurance details etc etc. Then I'd walk around the LA's introducing yourself and ask to speak to the person in charge of dealing with all cleaning issues (usually the Maintenance Manager).

If they are not available, ask for their name and number etc and leave your info pack (along with your buiness card) with the person you spoke to.

If you hear nothing after a week or so, give your new contact a follow up call.

Hi Neil,

Sounds like you need work quickly. Instead of walking around all the LA's in your area. Get the phone book out, phone them all and if you hit them at the right time you might get a result and even if you don't ask them if you can send your details and make sure you enclose a business card and even though the letter might go in the bin the card might be kept.
Then just go through the phone book or yell.com and look for anywhere that might need cleaners. Dentists, doctors surgeries, solicitors etc.. and send them all letters.
Persistance pays off in the end.

i only ever did leaflets once BUT it was the ones that i did on a Sunday that got me  the handful of work that i got from the said exericse.

Is there a good day to leaflet drop?

thanks for all the help guys and gals.

I put my glad rags on today and went to all the estate agents in my area. Some not interested at all some interested and will keep my details...... worth a shot i thought.

Been told to maybe try local residential home and pubs but i've never done this sort of work before

Going to visit new build development sites tomorrow

Well done for getting out there. How many did you visit and how many showed an interest ?

Apart from going to the new build sites I would take Arthurs advise and approach some dentists and solicitors etc before going for the pubs.

Let us know if you hear anything though.

i visited about 8 estate agents and had a little interest in about 3/4. basically took my card and said they will pass my details on and keep me in mind.

it just shows that if you put all your effort into what it is you want to accomplish it will work out in the end!!
