We often complain about the price we pay for equipment in the UK when you work out the pound dollar exchange rate.

We find we virtually pay in pounds what it costs ion dollars in the states for the privelidge of having imported and supp;ied by a distrubutor in UK

I was wondering how do costs compare in Australia to what you would have paid in US

The difference in the value of each currency has nothing to do with the cost of goods or services. The size of the market and the manufacturing costs are the relevent factors. You should know that U K manufacturers have to import almost every single component or the raw material to make them.
This is basic stuff and really, any adult should know the answers. There is no point in moaning about  - rip off - Britain when some people in this industry appear to be part of it  -  charging three - four times as much as the American operators ???
I don't know about the Australian tax system but we have to pay VAT and when you add that plus the conversion to 220/240 volts

What's the Auzzie market like? I wouldn't have thought many people had carpets due to the warmer weather.

When I went on holiday there a few years ago everyone in the YP charged ridiculously low prices in their ads.

It was 1999 when I went but I thought it was YP, I think I was in Cairns.

Damian did they export you back like a reverse criminal? did you have your wicked ways with both of the Minogue sisters at the same time? or didn't you land the  big part in Neighbours as promised?

I've had a brief insight into the Aussie market and it's quite similar to ours. If you see an advertised price it's low, just like here. If you don't see an advertised price then they may try to sell to you on quality and then tell  you how much that will cost, just like here.

The numbers are different to here, some things cost about the same and some things are much cheaper. Same with salaries.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Shaun, LOL. Launched off the island for not declaring criminal records when applying for 136 migration visa!!
In reality its a fair dinkum place(brisbane for sure!) but they havent got race tracks like UK(not for bikes anyways) AND i can sustain a better lifestyle here. There are many swings and roundy's but needless to say I think i am better off here. Each to their own i suppose?

I will say this though-if you are the sort of bloke to get off your a$$ and make it happen-as many on here are, then you can make it happen in most civilised countries regardless of costs and culture etc-it just doesnt drop into peoples laps-they have to do the running i suppose?

Yes there are splash and dash over there as well as high end cleaners-its much the same the world over-the old saying-"there is nothing new under the sun!" Rings true in most cases.

Nice country-just too laid back for me.

fisrtly yes it's warmer here and nowadays there is a lot of tiles instead of carpet but mainly due to trends.
their are a lot of c/c but not many that do a good job IMO. Especially chemdry who whisk over with a couple of pads and by the time they get to the 3rd or 4th house
their using the same pads, bringing everyone els's dirt to the next house.
YP do have cheappies but mainly in the eastern states. i'm in south aust.diff market!
and we are laid back and proud of it.
by the way i'm a pom, been here just over 30 years and love it. :)

Recent TV programmes showed the experience of about 10 families going over to have a trial run in Australia before emigrating. What came out of the programme was - the weather / lifestyle was better, but, property was very expensive and poor quality and income was generally less in some cases much less on a pro rata basis with the UK .

The size of houses out here is Perth are quite a lot bigger than England and yes prices over here have gone up heaps bout when I sold my house in Hampshire a end terrace got 130 000 pounds for it.  Built a 4 bed 2 bathroom for 242 000 dollars so it was cheaper.

But the uk house is now worth 170 and the oz house is worth 450 dollars so I am happy.

The cost of cc equipment is more over here but petrol is a lot cheaper.  The houses are so different you cant compare the price over in the UK to the price here in Australia.

And yes we get the real cheappies everywhere.  An example got a call today to clean 3 rugs.  As it was very close to a job I had already booked in I was going to do it cheap as no travel.  I said between 25 and 45 depending on size and type.  She said thats to much.  She said she will call back if no one would do it cheaper!  she  phoned back saying someone was going to do it 12 dollars a rug no matter what size.  I just said good on them I couldn't and wouldn't do it so cheap.
