My van insurance is more expensive this year than it was last year and i have more no  claims bonus, it seems insurers are making it more expensive cause it has a water tsnk in the back.

Any one else found this?

i know lots of people who's insurance has gone up from one year to the next. dont forget, it is not just your driving that brings your insurance down (or indeed makesit go up if you crash etc) but the market, if lots of people have crashed this year insurance premiums rise and you pay more - even though you're not one of those who crashed.
i guess, the water tanks make a difference because of the added weight in the back constantly, means its hard to steer, stop etc makeing you more vulnerable in an emergency situation (emergency stops take longer cos of the increased momentam)
though, that's just my thoughts - cos im no insurance pro

Having the water tank in the back makes nearly £150 a year difference on one quote??? personally the usualy is for it to go down with the more no claims you have.

Last year i was never asked about a water tank but now they all do when you say your a window cleaning.

Switching insurers each year can help because they tend to draw you in with a cheap(ish) first year in the hope you will stick with them.
I get this lot to sort it out for me.  They are an online broker I think.

A-Plan A-Plan,they will insure your system aswell and i bet they beat your premium your paying at the moment.

A-Plan i found were one of the only ones i could find that would insure the system if it got stolen.

they ask how many it can the water tank is classed as a modification so they need to know!

Changed brokers to A-plan and the did it £60 cheaper even went through the same insurers as last year

We had all our vans insured through CVD, got a renewal quote at the beginning of the month for the main window cleaning van, increased premium by 50%, when I phoned them up it was the best deal they could find as I have an "any driver over 25" policy.

I went onto the net and had a look for myself, got a quote through Autotrader from More Th>n for less than I paid last year, they then phoned me the next day and asked if they could take some more details to see if it could be reduced any further, saved another £150 on their original quote.

It's always worth shopping around, these companies make their money from people just renewing without asking.

If you don't tell them about the tank, there is a high probability that your cover is invalid.

You do have to tell them about the tank,it comes under a modification and not just weight.You will find that a lot of companys won`t cover WFP systems,i think ionic fitting is insurance approved therefore different story.

yes, the payload means the maximum weight of stuff you can put in yes?
but the more weight you add the less the van will work as well as it does empty. go  over the payload and your van will hate you for it and stopping distance will be greatly increased cos the van cant handle the increased momentem. but the less weight you have the less mmentem and the van will stop, steer accelerate quicker. same as a car or most things.

Why would it be invalid
It's not a permanent fixture, i can take it out in 10 mins, just unstrap it. It's somthing i carry with me for work. the van is designed to safely carry the weight, the load is secure. do builders have to notify thier insurers every time they pick up a load of materials?
