when i first started about two years ago i said i was not going to do any door knocking as i hate it my self!
but work has been dead for last couple of weeks.
so i picked a posh estate to leaflet yesterday and drives were filfthy.
went back today and knocked on doors offering free demo.
all were polite but some said i have a washer my self or just no thanks.
not one single job or free demo done.

is all door knocking such doom and gloom???

or is it me??

i did work some sales like this...it was very hard indeed. People are scared when u say thats free. They prob asked u whats the catch???

  Try and take up something else on the cleaning side as it might brig more business in. By the way what side of cleaning are you doing i.e- house, office, commercial??? I have taken up floor scrubbing & floor buffing doing small supermarkets and corner shops. It might pay you to invest in a buffer/scrubber machine and do that while the other side od the business is a little slow - at least your bringing in some cash. if you need any more ideas please e-mail.

i do all exterior cleaning roofs gutters conservatories drives hgv's car 's   etc.......
cant really add much more to the list.

  You could offer your services to the badley hit flood areas by cleaning house walls as some of them will have water tide marks on them - it might mean going futher afield but at least you'll get more business.

but would not know how to best offer my services to them.
ie; leaflets. add in local paper

and most will be insurance work i would have thought. thats where the big firms get all the work.

i must sound really negetive.

  Try the papers and leaflets also send off a introduction letters with the different services you provide, to some of the insurance firms to let them know that your out there willing to do insurance work for them.

I do a fair bit of insurane work and none of it is through an insurance firm, all is done through a third party (fire and flood restoration companies).
These guys are your best bet in my opinion as they will be the ones contracted by the insurance companies and they will sub it out to people like you and me.

i came accross a couple of web sites that sound similar to what your suggesting but most charge a fee to sign up.

is this the norm??

DON'T pay for the contacts.  A waste of money!!!
These are just companies who act as a go between.

I am talking about people like Rainbow International who actually do the work but when they come across something they can't do they sub it out.
Just call them, explain what you do and try to get to see them in person (the franchisee usually).
Make sure your H&S and insurance is spot on first otherwise you don;t stand a chance.
