Had enough
« on: August 22, 2007, 07:46:53 am »
How much is a round really worth, I have had enough of this s**t weather and customers to match and not earning enough. Basically i have days of 300 quid plus and days when its miserable weather and the custys make me feel about as welcome as a pork pie i :(n a mosque and i earn bugger all,ive been offered another job and im thinking about taking it.
Would i be best selling the work or to sell my van and wfp stuff, i need a couple of new poles and the motor is seven years old (transit)
How many times the monthly value should i ask?
I dont want to invest any more time or money in this game, bloody yellow pages is £800 a year.
Basically i think window cleaning is a good job, its the crustymers that im fed up with.

and where are you based? No-one offence meant to anyone, but if  customers are the reason anyone quits, then perhaps you have not got it quite right when you taking them on. Yeah we get the odd few who winge about the weather, but they all know from day 1 that we clean all year round and in most weathers, therefore being able to give the service they require when the weather is good! Not earning enough?  perhaps anyone facing this needs to re-think......not charging enough?........didn't realise that "turnover and income are different?....... are you scheduling the work properly?...etc etc. That can be the trouble with these forums, that people see "high" figures of turnover and think that it can be matched. It takes time and a lot of effort to get it right and if everyone on this forum is honest, most would say that there business needs "tweaking" in some form to make it more cost effective. ;D

You'll find customers are the pain of any business

Keeping them, Pleasing them, Keeping them.

I ran a small retail shop and it was the same there

Your profile doesn't show what area you are from but if it's anywhere near me and you want to offload work just post here again.  I'm not looking for a replacement vehicle at this time.

Would you believe it, this morning i was all set to jack it in and this afternoon i get a call from a hotel i quoted about four months ago, a yellow pages enquiry, to tell me ive got the job worth an average 850 per month.
Looks like i can dump the misers and concentrate on the best payers.
I take on board the comments regarding charging enough and scheduling my work properly, both areas need to be addressed as i have more work than i can do with two people so i ought to be earning a proper amount.
I am still a new boy after all i have only been in the game for three years.

I've had the odd little gem via Yellow Pages - just enough to keep me interested in it.  They haven't been £850 a month jobs but I've had a £34, a £58, and a few £15 - £20 jobs through them (all 6 weekly).  Mind you, I don't pay anything like you do in advertising with them.  Also, there's nothing to say that I wouldn't have got those jobs if I had just had a one line freebie.

i was gonna say something along those lines

i earn £20 - £30 a hour. sometimes more but hardly any less. where else would you get a job like that. yes it can be a pain sometimes with the weather, but i quite like rainy days, gives me a break. you work hard when its nice. go and earn £200 + a day, even if you only worked 3 days a week, thats £600, youd have to work all hours to get that in a week! i used to work at halfords, i used to earn £750 a month, 5 days one week, 6 the next, with shifts of 9 - 5.30 and 11.30 - 8...no thank you. stick with it mate. how long you been at it?

If i could do 300+every day i wouldnt be complaining,i have a few days a month when i can achieve it but other days when i do much less,i work with a lad by the way, its not all mine.
I just resent doing the low paid jobs that i took on when i started out, how standards change eh when i started i was overjoyed with 100 quid.
Does anyone have any advice on risk assessments as the hotel want to see one done.
Nice job but its been so long i cant remember if i told them any porkies.
Also i need a pole to do 45 feet which is best for a occasional use, weekly.

I will make an effort not to throw the toys out of my pram in future,i showed the wife this mornings rant and i cant repeat what she called me.

Every job gets you down sometimes. Don't throw all your toys out of the pram just because You have got the @r5ehole.

If you don't like it change what you don't like. Otherwise you will just be leaping out of the frying pan into the fire.

The grass definitly isn't better on the other side, thats an illusion

I could'nt agree more - I had a good round and sold it 3 years ago, I was a traditional W C, and had a few odd bods on my round you get em everywhere you go! I have had 3 jobs since I sold up  - the grass is definatley not greener on the other side - there's nothing better than working for yourself once you have done it before, sure you get your good days and bad days - but here I go again and im staying with it this time!
