Any chemical that is designed to remove oil stains will do so by breaking the oil down so that it can be washed away. As tarmac is essentially oil and stones, the chemical will start to dissolve the tarmac on contact albeit slowly.
If you have the oil problem on tarmac, then you can still use the Thompson's stuff but you can only leave it on for a couple of minutes and so the stain removal will never be very effective. Also, unless you are absolutely sure that it has been rinsed thoroughly, any chemical left on the tarmac will continue to eat away at the surface and you may and up with a hole in the driveway, especially if the oil stain has been there a while because the surface will already be weak due to the presence of the offending oil.
Don't mean to lecture but I found this out the hard way and I don't want you to fall foul of the same problem.
Hope this helps
Andy
