Yes you need to make the water for it via an RO unit or DI vessel.

To be honest if i were you i would buy a backpack and put it on a trolley,if your new to WFP it will give you a good idea of what all the fuss is about. If it suits you and your work and you then go for a vanmount set up the backpack can then be used for those houses with limited access, with RO unit to produce the water a pole and backpack your off and running for under £500.

Cleantech will do you a starter kit which will enable you to make water, with a backpack and 4x25ltr containers you could start off in a car if you wanted to.

Make sure on the first charge that you charge it fully, form then onwards a 7hr charge will be enough,in reality the backpack should get you 3-4 hours constant working time, but don`t forget that you turn it on and off so you might get more.

I'm a freedom trolley fan. I have a van mount as well. If you get a freedom trolley it won't be wasted no matter what you read.
Get a water tank, submersible pump and you have a van mount.
You don't need loads of 25l containers if you have a water tank, just 1.
However, nwh and matt have given you cheaper alternatives which are just as effective.
It depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.

I depends if you are experienced or new to WFP

If you are new to WFP you would get one 3 bed semi done on a 25 ltr container.

You will always get through a lot more water until you get some experience with WFP.

I do 2 now with 25 litres. But as paul said, 1 is most likely for a while.

Glad someone actually told the guy the truth instead of everyone saying "3 or 4".

I am finding I am using a lot less now than when I started.  Lack of experience and first cleans = lots and lots of water :D
