Hi, any thoughts on cleaning an acrylic/viscose shaggy pile rug with a couple of good doses of dog pee (can I use that word)? How risky will the viscose be to HWE. :

personally i'd bonnet it with with fine line (acid based solution ph5.6) or catalyst it, ph7 wool safe. BUT! test it first & if you can clean it charge the earth! i would. regards char    ps you may not be able to get dog pee out though, custy should be made aware of that first. before cleaning vac both sides of rug about 6x ok.

Peter, it is unusuall for an acrylic rug to be a shag but of course things change day to day.  Most of them are shorter pile rugs. 

As long as the backing can take a saturation clean the only way to really effectively clean a liquid stain as you have suggested is to "flood it out.  An hwe will not solve your issues and you would have to apply a suitable chemical to treat the stain as again just cleaning it wont work with hwe.

Personally as I have mentioned many times I wouldnt vac an area that has a pet stain.  For one it isnt going to vac up and two you are just going to contaminate your vac and then have to spend time on cleaning it (the vac) up.

Anyway unless you have a suction only vac I wouldnt use any other type on a rug.

P.S.  Before someone mentions the Rug Badger please note this type of machine vibrates to increase its ability to remove dry soils.  It is not of the beater bar variety as most vacs are.

These machines are very good so I have been shown and have heard but I still feel that an air line or air dusting machines are far superior..................

As the RugBadger is my company, i do have to speak up when you are comparing it to airdusting.

In North America we have many folks here that have air dusting setups AND they are buying RB's to enhance their dry soil extraction capabilities.

What many have discovered is that when air dusting is done correctly with the right tools and air compressor it is very effective on the lighter soils, however the RB will always do better at dislodging the more abrasive, damaging, stubborn, gritty and impacted soils.

The big advantages the RB has over air:

-you can RB indoors
-far less expensive then a big compressor
-much cleaner process
-more effective on heavy soil
-no need for huge 3 phase power

Pleae don't take my word for it. Just google and find folks that are using it and ask them.
