Thinking Of an Upgrade
« on: July 20, 2007, 09:42:37 pm »
Seriously thinking of upgrading my machine. Been doing a lot of research into which portable is best, which would you guys consider to be the best for all around performance, It is to be used in both Domestic and Commercial (Commercial mainly being Pubs so loads of black top) The machines I am looking at are- Puzzi, Rug Doctor etc not really only joking !!!  ;D seriously I am looking at - Scorpion, Mytee Speedster, Rhino and Ninja,

Thanks

Duncan

I went from a steempro to a ninja and it functionality is better than prochems but the steempro's are easier to use (moving around etc.)

Can't say. Some rave about the Scorpian but can't see how it cleans as well without heat even at 500psi.

Ninja with heat box and steam mate is prob best and more solid than speedster, but I think Ashbys stuff is over priced and some say their back up is patchy.

If I could scrape a few grand more I'd be tempted by the Prowler or second had T/M.

If you buy a prowler I don't think you'd need to buy another machine for at least another 10 years!

I've seen one and used it, very well made, affordable, good back up from John Kelly a very nice man, a very very nice man, a very very very nice man (old joke from the telly) cheap to run, endless heat, more suction then an electric machine.

Dont touch a Ninja. Wish i hadnt. Too heavy. Very small solution and waste tanks. No temp gauge. No hour meter. And temp heater will only heat to 60 degrees.

PS Had an Extracta Excel and an Alltec ProPlus. My next machine will def be the Pro Plus.

If I was starting out in this business I think the Prowler would be my first choice.

Got a Prowler from John a couple of months ago. Superb machine even used it recently to suck the water off a flooded flat roof. It turns  long heavy laborious jobs into a breeze.

Ashbys ninja 400psi 3kw tank heater v2 steam mate why do people say its heavy i have this machine small wooden ramp to get it in my renault master no problem get it out same way. then you can leave it outside the customers house or downstairs  and clean from there plenty of power and heat brilliant kit. might be a bit more expensive £200 / 300 but good. Ashbys been good with me no complaints to date.

Thanks for all the info still no nearer to making a decision at the moment, I do like the look of the Scorpion but concerns about no heat, With the Speedster i too have heard the odd negative comment about them, dont know much about the Ninja yet. Does anyone have a Rhino, I see they have one that is 500psi and looks interesting.

Still happy to hear your comments to guide me in the right direction as I want to invest in the best portable on the market

Hi Duncan

I find that, from the machines I've had, played with and seen demo'd, the Scorpion is up there with the best of them. If you run the 2" vac hose rather than the more convenient 1.5" the vacuum performance is, by porty standards, awesome.  As the Scorpion is set up for maximum airflow, it makes good advantage of the 2" hose.  Many of the other high performance portables are set up for maximum vacuum lift. These would probably not have any gains with the T/M spec 2" vac hose. They may even be at a disadvantage.

I would suspect that you would never need 500psi with conventional tooling, but may find an advantage with something like a CFR Wonder wand.

The only thing I am wary of with the Scorpion machines is that they have protruding fittings at the sides. I would expect an owner operator to take this into account when moving and loading the machine.  A less considerate employee could well be careless and knock these off.

When it comes to heat, there are many with extremely varying views. Mine is that cleaning is about a whole system, not just a single component. If you get the vaccing, pre-conditioning, agitation and dwell time right, your HWE machine is then used purely for rinsing away the loosened soil, so heat is not such an important consideration. Heats biggest advantage in this scenario is with the pre-conditioning.  With the final rinse, high heat will improve the first few seconds of moisture evaporation from the carpet, but then the advantage is lost.  I work with hand hot water from the tap, if available, but a cold water rinse doesn't lose me any sleep.  You can always use an in-line heater if required with your chosen cleaning solutions.

A facility you have with the Scorpion is to add the large capacity in-van tanks should you desire to have a truly demountable truck based system. This can be added at any time subject to cash flow.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Reminds me of franchise systems which to buy into mums the word or glorify! get a few demos and your decision come from that! The best of any thing on the market there ant one!

As ken said quote truly demountable truck based system unquote has to be the prowler I haven’t got one. Add up the cost over all, delivery is important or have I missed some? ;D

As I am backing slowly out of the business, I have no axe to grind, My experience has covered a lot of machines, from little, but surprisingly good Puzzis, through, most of the others, my favourite being the CFR, but I always had a concept in my head of the ideal machine and the Prowler comes very close, to that ideal.

Lots of power
Portability
No need to dump

I would love to see this machine paired up with a Wonderwand.
