I'll answer that as Martin will as well most prob.
Stairs: Freestyle breaks down so you can use the base on it's own but I've used the whole machine on many occasions with no problems. You can also clean them by hand.

Edges: Machine goes right up to the edges.

Water based stains: What's the problem? They come out easily with Host.

1001 foam areas: Never knowingly cleaned one but then again custy's don't tell all do they!

Rugs: Cleaned many an oriental rug with great results.

I don't use anything but Host sponges, a spot remover and prespray.

Good reply P/A but I find it rather surprising, you have never, knowingly come accross 1001 / Vanish, the evidence is immediate and in at least 50% of homes, won't foam up to the same extent with a dry system, as it does when a wand comes in contact.

Which, of course, means the foam is still there attracting  soil, unless, of course you are able to neutralise / extract it with the Host granules...............this would interest me.

Hi

Rod is spot on in all aspects.

Water based stains fly out as does grease.

As Rod says, I have not to my knowledge done these 1001 stains as it won't foam up, the pre spray with start to break down the stain and the sponges with encapsulate the stain and product, anything left should come up with a spot remover.

Although usually I can see the stain has greyed and can say with almost certainty that the stain is permanent

Stairs are no issue, the EnviroDri has a 180 degree handle and I have done hundreds of sets of stairs, rugs etc even a rug (infested with moths) that was over 70 years old, grease stains where it looked like the oven had been sick and countless student lets (some of the worst carpet I have come across) I have done, soot, puke, compacted pet hair salvage,

But, like any system it isn't ' Jesus in a bottle', all it is, is personal choice. If you are delighted with HWE, then great, keep at it and keep building your businesses, why there is this need to constantly put down any dry system is beyond me.

I generally use the pre spary
Agitate
Leave for 5-10 mins
Powder down and agiate in
wait to dry
Vac up with my sebo 360
Treat any stains left
walk out the door

I have gum remover (amazing gear)
I have insect killer
Dry crystal
Spot remover
Sponges
My machine

Can I get rid of every stain...

No

But, no one can guarentee stain removal.

To Martin & Rod (poles apart) - have been following along with the interchange re HWE and the"dry" methods with interest - Im always interested in other ways although been on HWE extraction for years now (currently CFR) and not had a demo of the dry systems.
Suppose I should get to see Host as they are only 20 miles away

Rod uses Host, Martin uses Envirodry - have either of you used the other?? and how do they compare in your opinion??
Do they cope with pet stains/odours??
Used in nursing homes??
Same question re pubs??
What about time taken compared with HWE - comparing sq.yardage??

Respect your views.

Hi

can't speak for Rod but I have not used Host.

I did look at it at the start but it was beyond my budget at the time.

The Inventor of EnviroDri came to see me and did the demo personally, sadly no longer with the company I believe.

I have don't pet stain (obviously urine is the same no matter what you use, bar a flamethrower maybe?)

Not used in a nursing home as yet

yes I have used it on a pub

My operating width is 40'' so I can cover about 90 m2 an hour. I did the Holiday Inn Garden Resturant here in Brighton, 400m2 took 4 hours straight start to finish to complete

I have my own set routine whereas I take prespray and machine out, apply pre spray and brush in, take prespray back and get product, apply brush in, take product and machine back, get the vac, either wait to dry, or go and get lunch, vac on return.

On empty properties I can treat 3-4 carpets on one day and return to vac the next, letting the product scent the entire property.

That's me.

I've tried Envirodri but many years ago so it may be better now ;)
I used to do a lot of nursing homes when I first started and used a product called smoke x which, when sprayed into the room prior to cleaning, took away the odours.
I've used it in pubs on many occasions with no problems at all.
My method ( upon arrival and moving of any furniture), is to vac with a freestyle, apply prespray if needed, apply Host and agitate then vac up. Job Done. If there are any spots left I'll use a spot remover or more sponges and a hand brush.

Gentlemen you have done an excellent job in a few posts, to stimulate interest and discussion on a viable alternative to H/W/E

40 " is an incredible width and puts a completely new perspective on the viability of this system in commercial work.

The only negative for me, is the follow up vacuuming, but his could be overcome by using a water filtration or wet/dry vacuum, which eliminates the need to wait.

As a matter of interest, Martin, which granules do you prefer, if that's not political territory ?

I have been reading this thread with great interest.
Quote from Martin......
Quote
Funny how dry is put down by HWE but not the other way around

Sorry Martin but I have to disagree with this point.......

I went to a seminar on how to use HOST and lost count of the amount of times that wet cleaning was put down as an inferior method for cleaning carpets. Also if you read the advertising of many (not all) 'dry only' carpet cleaners all they seem to do is slate wet cleaning.

However....

The fact is that IMO both methods work under different circumstances. I offer both wet or dry cleaning services to my customers and though I still have a preference to wet cleaning, I have little doubt that those who have taken the time and had the patience to master dry cleaning can do an exellent job.

Hi

My quote as you highlighted was in reference to a lot of comments on this site.

Not seminars or websites.

I am sure people do slag off HWE, I don't personally.

The debate has raged since I have been on this site and will continue to do so no doubt.

You can vacuum up Host sponges with the liberator or freestyle while they are damp and it's the airflow which then dries the carpet.

With Much Interest

I've often seen the big advert for "The most thorough clean or its free".  I've also heard of the Bone Dry franchise.  Can I assume that the big ad (sometimes with the CCer's photo) is a Bone Dry operator, or could it relate to any method(s) / Organisation ?

We have recently started selling the EnviroDry. I had dabled with dry cleaning many moons ago when Belgian Wiltons first started to appear. I was never completely satisfied with the result. I now know that was because I was never taught how to use it properly by the distributor I dealt with at the time.
I have been playing around with the EnviroDry recently on some lengths of carpets we have for training and demo purposes, and have been most impressed (surprised). I think the key is to agitate the pre-spray before applying and agitating the sponges. Even after just agitating the pre-spray the carpets look surprisingly clean.
