Cleaned an 18 Month old 3 piece suite today that the customer paid to have guarded when bought. Started using pre-spray gold and terry towels. Very little effect made as they were quite dirty but I thought it strange that it was proving so difficult given the not too long ago guarding.

Moved to fabric restorer and hwe and the results were still poor. At this point I felt there was no way this suite had been guarded. Told customer and agreed to move through the chain of agression (testing along the away) and still poor results.

I took some water and poured a small amount on the back where it wasnt dirty and had no use. The water soaked through immediately. Am I right in thinking that it probably wasnt guarded at all by the very large sofa Co. There was no whiteness in the recovery tank either.

I have told her I will give my observations to present to the Co. but thought I would run it by you guys as I may well be missing something.

Sofa was cotton (slight poly) with a pulled stitch giving a velour look/feel so nothing unusual.

You mean a Chenile fabric? I think we all come across untreated supposedly treated suites all the time. Its a rip off, people dont bother because the cost is usually added on to the cost of the suite, which is normally paid for over several years, so thay dont feel it all at once. If they did they might want some better assurances that it had been treated and properly.

Thing is Dave, if she has paid for it and it is on her invoice she must surely have some comeback on the shop (a large sofa firm, naming no names but I'm sure you know who I mean)

When I used to be in a franchise, a very big national furniture retailer hardly ever bothered to treat their suites. When we got called out for spot cleaning via the insurance, I used to feel sorry for the custy's when they would moan saying their sure it isnt treated.

None of us franchisee's could say a dam thing either    Scandal is what I call it!

Once tried to clean a cream Buffalo Hide, was told 2 other cleaners had tried a cushion each, and got nowhere with it, 18 months old, Told her no gaurd.
She rang Lush and spoke to the manager, eventually crying too much to speak, asked me to speak to him.

He asked me if i knew how to clean it, which really p**sed me off no end.
His final excuse was she had the dry policy, Insurance but no Gaurd.

Told her to keep banging away at them as they didn't have a leg to stand on, and would eventually have to replace suite.

I hope she had the nerve to keep on at them.

A lot of chains will simply offer to "protect" the suite for £££££s.

The customer thinks they are getting a scotchgard type protection when in fact they are getting insurance "protection".
